I always carry a ring on me. You never know when you need to propose. It gets you a lot of things.
It's a really cheap ring from the store. It looks real enough though.
I like to take my girlfriend Katie out to dinner a lot. We love trying new restaurants.
You're probably asking what does this have to do with proposing? Simple. At the end of the meal I propose and we usually get free dessert. Katie hates doing it but I love it. I don't even really have a reason to do it because we have more than enough money to pay. It's just fun. I always get to come up with new speeches and new ways. Like tonight.
Katie had just finished eating.
"You know what time it is" I whispered to her giving her a smirk. "Why do you have to do this every time" she sighed. "Who doesn't want free food?" "Just come on."
I stood up with my glass and tapped it.
"Excuse me everyone" I announced. "Today is a very special day to me. It is my fifth anniversary with my girlfriend" I continued. Everyone started clapping. "Katie. Where do I even start? You are so perfect in every way and so talented. You amaze me everyday and never fail to surprise me. You bring me up when I'm down. You're the light at the end of the tunnel. I love you so much and couldn't ask for a better girlfriend. So I'd like to make today even more special" I said before going down on one knee. "Will you make me the happiest woman on Earth and Marry me?" "Yes! Yes! Yes!" She responded.
Everyone started clapping again. We kissed and I slid the ring on her. Then sat back down.
We finished up at the place and left to go home.
"Why did you have to be so dramatic today" she asked once we got in the car. "I wasn't." "I don't think it was necessary for you to tap on the glass like you were giving a speech at a wedding." "But I've always wanted to do it" I said with a pout. "It wasn't necessary. And neither was the 'you bring me up when I'm down. You're the light at the end of the tunnel'. Everyone says I'm dramatic but look at you" she says mocking me. "You weren't complaining when you were eating that free delicious dessert." "It's free dessert." "Exactly my point."
It fell silent for a few minutes.
"I think we should actually get married" I said breaking the silence. "What." "I think we should actually get married" I restated. "The whole huge wedding and everything?" "If that's what you want. I'll spare you the proposal since I've done it enough. I mean unless you want another one. Because I've got a bunch of ideas still." "No I'm good on the proposal." "So will you actually marry me?" "Yes" she stated with a smile.
"Then this is yours" I said while digging a box out of my pocket. "Y/n I don't want this cheap ring f-" "Just open it" I said cutting her off. "I was going to actually propose tonight. But then I didn't think it was a good idea because you'd probably think I was joking" I said while she opened the box.
"Y/n" she said speechless.
I've been carrying around an actual ring hoping I would find it in me to not be scared and propose. It was a custom ring.
I looked at her and noticed she was crying.
"Why are you crying? Don't cry. We don't have to get married if you don't want to it's okay" I said wiping the tears falling down from her face.
"No, no I want to get married. I guess I just didn't actually expect you to propose to me. We've barley even talked about it. And you used to say you never wanted to get married so I just didn't expect it" she said while wiping the rest of her tears. "Well yes I used to not want to get married because I thought it was stupid. But we've been together for a while and I love you. I know you've always wanted to have that big wedding and all that and I want that with you. I want to get married and have kids and all that with you. I love you. A lot. I want to marry you."
"I love you" she said moving to kiss my cheek.
I took the ring out the box and put it in her finger.
"I love you too" I said before kissing her.
A/n: I didn't really know how to end it. I have too many drafts about marriage or involving children.
