Levi could see the heavy stream of smoke from the interior of the walls. Bertolt had transformed, his large figure appearing above the structures. Y/N must've been in a hell of a safe spot for him to risk her life like that.
He tried not to think too hard about it, finishing up his job of slaying the smaller titans sent after them. With the heat growing thick in the air and the smoke darkening in color, Levi determined he should try and find his squad. He'd barely gotten a word in to Y/N and he wasn't about to sit around in hope that she was still kicking it. Not to mention the damned brats, if he could spare more room to think.
Before he could even move, rocks flew past him, smashing into the buildings they were using as cover. Soldiers screamed, bloody smoke covering the rooftops. The beast had begun his slaughter. Taking large boulders within his clutches, the beast titan crumbled them, throwing them at the scouts. Both Levi and Erwin shouted, "Get down! Take cover!" Flying down to the red grass, Levi hugged a building, the ground trembling with cries as more rocks took out more people. Their numbers were dwindling fast.
"The titan is throwing boulders!" Levi told the remaining group, "move now! Take the horses and retreat to the wall." They gasped, covering their heads as rocks continued to be thrown. Erwin dropped down to join his fellow scouts. "How's it looking?" Levi asked him. "Terrible. The front line is gone. Everything will be leveled if this continues and we won't have anything to hide behind." "And we can't retreat to the other side of the wall?" "No," he sighed, "the Colossal titan is already on his way. We could scale it, but the horses can't. We retreat and there's no hope for victory."
"What about Hange's group?" Levi questioned. "I'm not sure. Most are gone, caught within the explosion." He clicked his tongue as Erwin continued. "The beast titan used the small titans to group up our soldiers. All the squads that took care of them were wiped out. In other words, the remaining forces on this side consist of you, new Scout recruits, and me. No others." The new scouts were pale as ghosts, hands trembling and stomachs lurching at such news. They continued to scream in agony as rocks hit behind them.
