This world was cruel. That has been apparent for a long time. Now, it only felt like it was taunting them.
Levi held out the syringe for Eren, Armin's barely alive body burnt beside him. Before he could, Floch threw himself onto the roof, Erwin on his back. "Levi—Captain. I found you. It's the Commander," he quivered, "he's hurt. His blood won't stop. I thought the injection might be able to help him...but, what do you think?" The group stood in silence, realizing the dilemma cursed upon them.
Levi brought the case to his chest as Armin gasped for breaths. "Captain Levi," Eren mumbled, watching him place Erwin down, feeling his breath upon his fingers. "Captain Levi," he repeated, Levi standing with his voice shot. "You know what must be done. Erwin gets the shot." Eren growled, standing to face him, tears lacing his eyes. "You can't. You told me you'd use it on Armin." "...I'm going to revive the person who can save humanity."
Floch gasped as Mikasa drew her sword, even her hands trembling as she stepped forward. "You two," he insisted, "do you have even the faintest damn clue...what you're doing? It's Erwin. The Commander of the Scouts and you're telling me to watch him die?" He squinted his eyes at them, "there's no time for this. Get out of my way." Not even able to place his foot down, Eren gripped onto the case, attempting to tug it away.
"Eren," he said, "check your emotions." "Sorry, can't do that. Tell me why you didn't give it to Armin right away?" "I was considering the chance Erwin might be alive." "But you couldn't have known that," Eren grunted. "You aren't wrong, but the fact remains that he's here now." Eren continued grasping the case, making no effort to take it from him.
Levi slapped him, shoving him down the roof's edge. This set Mikasa off, who tackled him, shoving her blade at his throat. Her hands held his wrists in place, debating whether to take it by force. "Mikasa," he choked, "you know just as well as I do. Without Erwin, we can't beat the Titans!" "He's right!" Floch butted in, "don't be crazy. There's too much at stake." She growled at him, Eren slowly rising with a broken notion.
