Y/N received a knock on her door, making her body flinch. She gripped tightly onto her desk chair as the visitor peeked inside.
"Oh good, you're awake."
It was a small woman with long brunette hair, her short nose curling as she smiled.
"You've slept another day away, but not that anyone really cares."

Y/N's grip released when she noticed the red armband on the woman's sleeve, unlike her previous "guest."
"You're a shifter?"
She hummed, closing the door with her foot as she revealed two steaming mugs.
"Oh, yeah. Mr. Jeager caught you up then?"
"Yeah...unfortunately."
"I'm Pieck," she introduced, holding out the black mug.

Hesitantly, she took it, feeling the first comforting warmth against her skin.
"It's not coffee," she chuckled, noting Y/N's slight disgust, "it's hot chocolate."
"Chocolate?"
Pieck sat atop the unmade bed, nodding with a grin, "it's sweet. You'll like it."
Lifting it to her lips, Y/N awed at the taste, the savory chocolate making her cheeks blush.
"A lot of people are in line to meet you, but if you want to stay in your room forever, no one can really stop you."

Y/N placed the mug on the desk, pulling open the drawers to search for something.
"Eventually they might drag you around the cities, but since you and your mother share the sleeping condition, they might think twice."
"Sleeping condition? You know about it?"
Y/N pulled out a sheet of paper, still searching for a pen.
"Constant sleep is a symptom of your ability."
"But...mine started when I was like 16?"
"Lucky you weren't eaten then. For Mrs. L/N, it started after her experiment."

Y/N's fingers eventually curled around the cold metal of a pen, a small clam symbol engraved on it.
Popping the cap, she tried to write, making Pieck stand to investigate.
"Oh, that's right. Different alphabets."
"Huh?"
"We speak the same language, but write it differently."
Y/N knitted her brows, everything connecting with her mother's notebooks and handwriting that never made sense.
"What are you writing?"
