CHAPTER 4
So I told them. “I don’t have enough money left from my previous job, but I owe two payments for my room and board here at the dorm. My scholarship doesn’t cover it. I’ve been trying, but I haven’t been able to get another job yet and…well, they want their money—now. And I’d give it to them if I could, but I can’t! If I get kicked out of here, I won’t have anywhere else to go… What will I do then?”
“What do you mean “then? As if there will be a “then”? They haven’t kicked you out yet, have they?” Asked Junsu. I shook my head. “See?
You’ve still got time. You have to keep the faith or else nothing will work out.”
I looked up at him. Was he right? Was that the answer to it all? Faith? I just have to stay hopeful. I told myself. Where there’s a will, there’s a way, right? Someway… Then Yunho pulled Jaejoong and Junsu aside.
“Excuse us for a moment.” He said.
To Jaejoong and Junsu, this is what he said: “This is the perfect opportunity. She needs a job and a place to stay. We know she can cook, and she obviously cares about being clean.” They glanced at me as I proceeded to finish picking up the chopstick, replacing the ones on the counter on the container and throwing the rest away. “We’ve been looking all over for somehow, and now it seems fate has brought someone to us. And we can tell she’s nice, right? She’s a good person who doesn’t even like drinking and clubbing. She’s perfect for the job. She’ll take care of us and keep on track, just like we wanted… And she’s pretty too.”
Junsu whacked Yunho upside the head. “What does it matter if she’s pretty? Is that all you think about?”
Yunho pouted. “No, I think of other things too. I was just saying…”
“I think it’s a good idea.” Jaejoong cut into their little argument.
Junsu nodded vehemently with a smile. “Let’s do it!”
Yunho looked at both of them. “So it’s decided?”
He moved to turn around, but Jaejoong stopped him.
“Wait! What about Yoochun and Changmin. They have to be in on it too. How can we make the decision without them?”
Yunho looked down in thought. “Right… Well, we’ll just tell her to come and meet them, but that it’s pretty much a done deal. Yoochun and Changmin will be fine with it, I’m sure.”
“Ya, like you were sure they’d be fine with the headless teddy bear prank last week?” Jaejoong said sarcastically.
“Maybe we should call them first?” Junsu suggested.
Yunho protested. “No, it’s fine. We’ll talk to them later. This may be our only chance to hire her. Just trust me, ok?”
Junsu and Jaejoong looked at each, then looked at Yunho and nodded.
“She does have pretty hands…” Jaejoong whispered to Yunho.
“I know right. I mean, it’s good to have someone who can cook and clean, but it’s great if she looks good too.”
“Shut up, you two.” Junsu scolded.
Then they turned back to me.
“We have a proposition for you.” Yunho announced.
I looked between them suspiciously. With all that whispering, who know what sort of plan they had up their sleeves. I was once again aware that I had foolishly invited three strangers into my home. Granted, it was a dorm and there were other people, but still. Was that the safest idea in the world? Probably not, especially considering I met them at a club. I set aside the broom I was using to get up the last of the rice and sat in front of them on the other side of the table and nodded for him to go on.
