CHAPTER 20
So I popped my head inside the apartment to call out an announcement that I was leaving but would be back in time for dinner, then left with Ae Cha to her birthday party. I was just like old times. The three of us together, laughing and joking and being silly and not having a care in the world. We were in the middle of a game of a tongue twisters game when a knock came at the dorm’s door.
“Go answer it.” Ji-hyun pushed me toward the door.
“You always make me to everything.” I pretended to complain as I walked to the door.
The first face I recognize was Jaejoong’s.
Then I saw Changmin and Yoochun standing behind him.
“What are you guys doing here? Is something wrong? Did something happen?”
Then I saw the small baskets of candy and flowers they were holding and guess nothing was the matter. Jaejoong shook his head and chuckled.
“No, everything is good. I know we weren’t invited, but we just wanted to make sure your friend got these.”
They all held out their baskets to me.
“Oh… That’s so nice of you, but why would you…?”
“You’ve been so sad lately because your friend was mad at you. Now, we’re just really happy that you’re happy again.”
“Friendship is something to be celebrated, even if we don’t know who she is. We’re grateful to see that smile on your face.” Said Yoochun.
I looked own, but nothing could hide my smile today.
“Well, why don’t you give these to her yourself?” I held the door farther open.
They walked in and I walked them up to Ae Cha.
“Ae Cha, I believe you’ve met Jaejoong and Changmin already. This is Yoochun.”
Her face immediately turned red and I remembered when she had yelled at the grocery store.
“Oh my…I-I’m so sorry!” She stammered, then bowed to them. “I’m so sorry for blowing up at you at the store like that. That was very rude of me. I’m so sorry…”
She looked at me with desperate eyes. But there was nothing I could do. There was nothing I needed to do.
“It’s ok. We forgive you.” Jaejoong handed her his basket. “Happy birthday.”
Yoochun and Changmin followed suit by also handing her their baskets and saying, “Happy Birthday.”
Ae Cha blushed and smiled brightly. Now she looked at me with grateful eyes. But what did I do? The three of them left before anyone else recognized them, and as he passed, Changmin winked at me. My heart fluttered.
“You’re so lucky…” Ae Cha said, leaning on my shoulder and watching them go.
I nodded. I know…
“Hey!” Yunho walked into my room (the door was open) and plopped on my bed behind me. “Watcha doin’?”
“You’re bored, aren’t you?” I asked.
He laughed. “Yes!”
“I’m doing schoolwork.”
He pouted. “You’re always doing schoolwork… You haven’t let me read any of your stories yet…”
I turned my face to look at him. I tapped his nose with my finger.
