CHAPTER 11

After I served breakfast and watched them leave for an interview, I felt oddly as though I part of a family. A mother seeing her children off. It’s a strange feeling to have for guys your own age that are you friends. I started cleaning before I remembered to unpack everything in my room. My white Christmas lights went around the ceiling. My clothes went in the droors of my new dresser. My cute socks, cell phone charms, and knick-knacks went in the nightstand. My shoes, skirts, dresses, and jackets went in the closet. My stuffed animal kittens went on my bed. My pictures and posters went everywhere. It really looked like a teenager’s room, but that was ok with me. At lunch I kicked myself for not remembering to pack them something. They didn’t come home for lunch. What would they do? Go out and by some unhealthy fast food? It won’t kill them for one day, just don’t forget again. I told myself. When they came home, I apologized and had dinner ready for them.

“The house smells nice…” Jaejoong observed.

“You did a good job today.” Yunho patted my back.

“I smell dinner!” Changmin exclaimed,

overlapped by Junsu’s, “Mmmm, something smells yummy!”

Yoochun bowed his head to me. “How was your day?”

I was already smiling. “Good, thanks. What about you?”

He nodded. “Good.”

Now I felt more like a little sister than a mother. Breakfast was the meal I made sure they ate enough of, and on time too. And lunch was the meal I made sure they ate all, whether it was something I packed for them or something they went out and bought themselves. Dinner was the meal I made sure we ate together. So we sat down to dinner together and they told me all about their day, just like little kids.

“We did a photo shoot first.” Jaejoong explained. “It went well, I think.”

“And we had some really good take-out for lunch, so don’t worry.” Changmin assured me.

Jaejoong pushed his hand in his face. “Don’t interrupt I’m still talking, maknae!” He scolded. “Anyway, after the photo shoot, we did the interview.”

“And that went well too?” I asked.

“Yep!” Replied Yoochun. “But we each had to show silly faces to the camera. It was embarrassing.”

I laughed to think of what they might’ve looked like.

“Then we went to the park!” Junsu exclaimed. “To film an off-shoot movie. I jumped two park benches!”

I was about to ask why, when Yunho spoke up. “Oh ya, well I jumped over three!”

“You did not!” Junsu contradicted.

“I did so.”

“No you didn’t.”

“Yes, I did! Didn’t you see me?”

“No. I saw you fall over three park benches, but I didn’t see you fly like I did.” Junsu said proudly.

“You didn’t even attempt three. I bet you were scared.” Yunho teased. “Scaredy Cat Junsu.”

“Hey…” Junsu looked offended.

“Hey!” I said more firmly. “You guys shouldn’t be fighting, especially at the dinner table.”

They all looked at me, surprised by the authority in my voice. To be honest, it surprised me too. Then they laughed, saying I would fit in here just great. I was already correcting them like a mother would. I wasn’t sure how that made me feel. Where they saying I was acting like a strict old lady?
