It didn't take too long for dinner to arrive and before Sarada knew it, they were already seated at the cafeteria.
The cafeteria was filled with the usual chatters from the academy students as well as the distinct sound of utensils and tableware.
Sarada slowly lowered her hand at her third bite, her eyes then made its way to where Boruto sat.
He seemed so carefree while talking with Shikadai and Mitsuki. For the past few days, this is the first time she saw him like that. He used to be unusually quiet, as if there's something that's keeping his mind occupied.
Averting her gaze it subconsciously found Kawaki who unlike Boruto and the rest of them was sitting alone at a far corner of the cafeteria. She saw how the other academy students eyes would trail a bit longer whenever they would walk past the boy's table.
She saw how some would stealthily throw him indifferent looks, some would even go so far as to blatantly scoff or click their tongues before starting hushed chatters.
They were gossiping behind his back, Sarada was so sure of that, but judging from the way Kawaki was calm and silent... then maybe he was ignorant about this? Or if not, then perhaps he's just choosing to ignore everyone and not give a damn.
Something in her heart hurt seeing how he was being treated like an outcast.
Even by his own brother, Boruto.
He looks so lonely by himself that Sarada just felt like it isn't right to not do anything about it. Especially now that they're friends.
"What's wrong, Sarada? Don't you like the food?" Chocho asked out of concern when she saw Sarada's plate that was far from being empty.
This seemed to have woken up the blackette from her reverie. She immediately turned to Chocho before giving her a small smile.
"I'm fine, I just... don't feel like eating."
"Hmm, why is that?"
Why is that? Sarada was silent for a moment as she stared at the food in front of her. The food was no doubt made by a skilled chef and it was delicious too. However, she felt like there was something missing.
After a few seconds she suddenly realized what it was.
"I kinda miss my Mom's home cooking... I miss home." Sarada answered absentmindedly, her voice became quieter at her last sentence.
Sarada felt homesick. It's been a week since she arrived at the academy and it seems like it was only now that she felt suddenly homesick.
Of course, Sakura never failed to call her every night to ask her about school and if everything is fine. On the other hand, it seems like her father is a different story.
She never heard from his father in person or talked to him ever since she's been to the academy though her Mom had been filling her up about her and Sasuke's situation back home.
Chocho hummed in understanding while she nodded her head. She too, felt what Sarada was feeling when she first step foot at the academy but overtime, everything became bearable and quite enjoyable when she made friends here.
"That's normal. I remember when I first arrived at Konoha Academy, I used to cry every night for three days straight just 'cause I miss my Dad and Mom." Chocho chuckled softly, her eyes turning reminiscent. "But it's a good thing that we have technology now, right? We can keep in touch even though were miles apart from them."
That made Sarada smile. Chocho was right, thankfully for them today's technological advancement made talking and calling possible even if the other person is on the other side of the world.
