Silence.
That was what loomed over the two of them right after she removed the very thing that's always covering Boruto's right eye.
She caught her breath as she stared at the equally blue ocean that was looking back at her. Gentle and almost peaceful.
"Woah," she gasped.
"So, can you actually see with your right eye?" Sarada questioned absentmindedly, her thumb slowly brushing the scar along his brow continuing just a little below his eye.
Boruto carefully touched her fingers that was trailing his scar before nodding his head while staring back at her observing eyes.
Again, another minute long silence engulfed them. With Sarada not sure whether to ask the blond the story behind the scar and the eye-patch or to continue admiring what she just saw.
In her mind, the scar didn't change the way she sees him. Rather, it actually made her admire him more. And if she's being honest, the scar added to his coolness.
Well, not like he isn't in the first place.
"This scar... is my punishment."
Dark eyes darted towards Boruto's solemn gaze. A feeling of worry and curiosity bubbled inside her, hearing how his voice crack a little with emotions.
She reached for his hand to give it a little squeeze. Just enough to let him know that she's here for him.
Whatever it is, she would gladly listen to his story without any judgement. And will still accept him despite of his flaws.
Flashing an encouraging smile, Sarada slowly sat down from her kneeling position without removing her hand that was holding his.
"Can you tell me about it?" She asked carefully, her voice almost a whisper.
Boruto released a deep breath, meeting her hopeful gaze, he saw the look of pure gentleness and kindness reflected in her eyes.
After all these years, she never once changed.
He smiled softly.
Closing his eyes for a brief second, he then took another long breath before opening them.
Sarada braced herself upon seeing the look in his eyes.
Determined and more brave than ever.
---
Boruto can still remember it as clear as day.
The first time Kawaki was brought into their home.
"We're back!"
The blond Uzumaki child was quick to avert his eyes from the video game on his phone upon hearing Naruto's cheery voice.
"Dad! Mom!" Himawari exclaimed excitedly, a huge smile was plastered on her face as she ran out of the living room and went to the front door to welcome their parents.
Turning off his phone and sliding it inside his pocket, Boruto stood up from the couch and followed Himawari only to see her seemingly rooted in her place.
Her mouth hanged open as she stared at the direction of the front door with wide eyes.
Boruto scrunched his eyebrows in confusion.
"What's wrong, Hima?" He asked before following her line of sight, his voice suddenly died down when he was met with unfamiliar gray eyes.
There, standing in front of Naruto and Hinata was a boy. He was taller than him, and no doubt a bit older.
