Chapter 12 (The Prison)

Alex woke up one morning and saw a note taped on the bedside lamp near her.

"I will be gone for a while,

There are people,

Who will take care of you,

BE GOOD!"

Ace

'What does he mean he will be gone for a while and who are these people?' Alex asks herself after she rushes downstairs. No one is there and there's total silence because no radio or television on. Ace normally turn the radio/TV on to break the silence but now it's really quiet.

'He really is not here' Alex seems happy with the idea and then she heard a noise coming from the kitchen. Ace usually cooks, because she won't cook, and she would never cook for that bastard, never!

'That devil, he fooled me again!' Alex said to herself and turns her back to go back upstairs but someone talk.

"Good morning Miss Merrill"

Alex turn her back to look who did the talking it was Chloe.

"Please don't call me that."

"Okay Ma'am"

"Not even that, just call me Alex."

"Okay, breakfast?" 

Chloe smiled at Alex though Alex is obviously reluctant she nodded then they both went to the kitchen.

"So, he's gone?" Alex asked Chloe.

"For a while yeah" Chloe answered.

"How long would that be...i mean that...while?"

"I have no idea" Chloe again deliver a timid smile "I was told to stay here when he's not. So, when I'm not here there's a chance Mr. Ace is here."

"And you're one of those people who will take care of me while he was away, who are the other people."

"Chase and Tony"

Alex scoffs "No communication, no phone, no internet, now I have you! not only you but also Tony the "chief" and Chase the "second in command" now I feel I am really a prisoner."

"You don't have much of a choice Alex."

"Please...don't say that! I have been hearing those words for months now and It feels like I wanted to throw up every time I hear those words."

"Let me tell you what situation you are in lady." Tony came from the backdoor with Chase. "Like what you said you're a prisoner in this island, you can't escape and even if you do... if you're lucky! Ace will find you because you can't hide from him!"

"So it's either you accept your fate or you can be grumpy all you want." Chase adds.

"Yeah, right" Alex scoffs again "That's easy for all of you to say... forget everything and move on because I have no choice, JUST LIKE THAT!"

"We are not asking you to move on we are telling you to live with it." Tony answered.

"The four of us are stuck on this island when Ace is not around and we are not a fan of what he's doing but he's our friend so why don't you cut us some slack will you?" Chloe said.

"We know being with Ace is pretty awful for you." Chase followed "but it would be for a while that he won't be around and it's awful for us to stay with someone who we don't get along with, so why don't we cut the chase and enjoy the moment while Ace is not here, WITH US!"

"We can be your friends Alex." Tony said.

"Yeah right!" Alex said with sarcasm, she left the kitchen.

Alex didn't make friends, it's pointless, there is no way she will spend her life with Ace so there is no point making friends with his friends. Besides, these people are that 'devil's' friend not hers. They're here to spy on her and not to make friends with her.

Months has past and every week Ace came over, He will spend the weekend with Alex and during those times Tony, Chase and Chloe will be gone and then when Ace needs to go those three will come back to the island again to be with Alex.

It's like a cycle, a routine and Alex is tired of boredom. She looks at herself in the mirror, her face is pale, she lose some weight and she does look like a Zombie, FOR REAL!

Alex looked around and found some make-up when she walks towards the dresser and open it there's clothing in there and those clothing are the kind of dresses she wears. Not the kind of clothing she wore when she was a face of Affluence Corp..

Alex slightly felt a relief, she's no longer the face of Affluence and there's no camera, no interviews, and she's done with the punishment.

But the thought of being married with Ace Merrill and being imprisoned in an island with bodyguards is more than punishment to her and that thought put her back to the feeling of depression.

Then she thought of what Chase said:

'Enjoy the moment when Ace is not around'

And Chase is right, these people are nice and they don't deserve to be treated the way she treated them. Alex put one of the dresses in the cabinet then she put some make-up to add some color on her pale face.

'Enjoy the moment' she told herself and that's what she's gonna do.

"Live with it Alex" she said as she examined her reflection in the mirror, she smiled, it's been a while since she smiled that she think she forget how to do it, when she find her smile she studied her face then convince herself 'Live with it" Alex again smiled then she went downstairs.

"Hey guys" Alex delivered her practice smile to Tony, Chase and Chloe.

"Is she smiling?" Chase asks Chloe and Tony.

"Hello gorgeous." Chloe said and then she smiled back at Alex.

"Is that a makeup?" Tony asks.

"Is that too obvious?" Alex felt embarrass.

"No! It's okay, it's just that..." Tony didn't know what else to say.

This is the first time Alex seems to be in a good mood and it's not going to be good if he ruin her mood.

"Forget about Tony" Chase said "Welcome back to earth Alex."

For days everything becomes easy for all of them, It doesn't feel for Alex like she's in prison, it's like she's on vacation with her new friends. Chloe is really sweet, they had a connection in an instant though she looks a little off Chloe is really nice like Michelle. While Chase and Tony, though they are nice to her they it feels like there is some kind of barriers and they do keep their distance. And Alex wants them to be friends and be at ease with each other like she is with Chloe it would be hard but Alex is decided to break the ice.
