Chapter 32 (The Art of Playing Hard to Get)

Alright, I know the title reveals the chapter but don't be annoyed. Alex needs to be courted don't you think? Beside this chapter I will publish two more chapters. It's all about Ace so I will cut the chase and publish everything about his feelings and fear and longing for Alex. "Don't look Alex, but I think my son is looking and he can't get off his eyes you." Harrison shows a smile of triumph.

Lucinda turns around and pretends she's just looking at the crowd but the truth is she just checked if her husband is telling the truth.

"Oh my, dear" Lucinda whispered to Alex "Our Ace is not just looking at you he's staring at you."

Alex tried to control her smile but she failed, it slips through her lips, and she can't help but turn her look at Ace. Her ex-in-laws are telling the truth, her ex-husband is really staring at her.

"I told you not to look." Harrison warns her.

"I'm sorry, I can't help it." Alex apologizes.

"Okay here is what you are going to do." Lucinda faces Alex. "You need to compose yourself, don't just give in, you need to afflict him so he would strive to win you back."

"Oh, please Lucinda honey that was the most stupid advice I ever heard." Harrison shows a deep-seated aversion to Lucinda's plan.

"Shut up, Harrison, I know my son, the more Alex refused him the more he will strive."

"Our son suffered long enough, and so does Alex what's the point of playing hard to get?"

Lucinda ignores her husband "Just listen to me Alex, mother's knows best." And she winks at Alex.

"Oh, please." Harrison chuckles, while Alex continues to smile, she was amused by her ex-in-laws.

"Oh, my...he's coming here." Lucinda saw Ace coming to their direction. "Calm yourself Alex, remember what I told you."

"I think Alex is okay, you are the one who needs to calm down." Harrison teases his wife.

Alex laughs softly.

"Shush, he's coming." Lucinda said.

They pretend they're talking on a particular subject for Ace might noticed they are talking about him. Lucinda and Harrison still pretended to talk even when Ace came closer. Alex on the other hand pretends she's engrossed with Lucinda and Harrison, but she can feel Ace presence behind her.

"Hello son, are you enjoying the party." Harrison smiled at his son.

Ace chuckles "Yeah, I am"

"Where is your date?" Lucinda asks Ace, she managed to control her smile but she didn't manage to stop herself to turn her eyes at Alex.

Ace noticed that. "Mom, Dad, you are acting weird." There is a restrained smile on his face.

"Are we?" Lucinda plastered a confused look.

"Yeah..." Ace laughs softly then he looks at his father and said "Can I borrow your very special guest Dad?"

Harrison smiled, "Yeah sure."

Alex didn't expect that, she look at Lucinda asking for help but Lucinda just smiled at her.

"Can I talk to you in private" Ace whispered to her ear.

Alex felt the warmth of his breath on her neck, it felt like there's a bolt of current running through her body, and Ace's husky voice put a shiver on her spine.

When Ace holds her hand and guides her far from the crowd she didn't hesitate and come along with Ace.

Ace took her to the garden, there is a garden set placed on the center. Ace motions his hand on the chair asking Alex to sit. He waited for Alex to settle herself on the chair before he sits next to her.

Alex wander her eyes around, there's no one in the garden but them. A light from the house give enough radiance on the garden, she can see Ace's face clearly.

"Why did you bring me here?" Alex asks.

"Why are you here?" Ace answers her with a question.

Alex ignores Ace's eyes.

"Your father invited me."

"Come on Alex, can't you give me a better answer? Your excuse is not really convincing."

"I am not making an excuse, your father came to my restaurant and he asked me to come. Who am I to say no?"

Ace didn't answer, he just stare at Alex.

"What?" Alex becomes uncomfortable with the way Ace looks at her.

"Nothing" Ace shakes his head slightly. "Let's go back inside."

Then he stands up, he didn't wait for Alex, he walks straight and didn't turn his back to check if Alex came with him.

While Alex remained seated on the garden set, she was surprised with Ace actions.

"He took me here to ask why I am here. Is that it?" Alex asks herself then she scoffs "Unbelievable."
