Chapter 28 (Losing Ace)

"What happened?"

Alex is really worried; she received a call from Michelle and rush to the hospital with her parents. Medical apparatus are on Ace's body, there are wounds and bruises everywhere. He had a wound on his forehead and bruises on his left cheek.

"Car accident" Tony answered Alex "The doctor said he's under observation but they think he can make it."

Alex saw Michelle, Chloe and Chase. Her parents greet Ace parents. She moves towards Ace and hold his hands.

"Oh, Ace...what have you done, why did you do this to yourself."

Alex faced Harrison and Lucinda.

"I'm so sorry, if...if I listened to your son this would never happened." Alex apologizes to her ex in-laws.

"Don't blame yourself Alex; it's not your fault." Harrison hugged her.

Alex tears fell; she looked at Harrison and said "I really am sorry."

Lucinda approaches her.

"I need to talk to you Alex."

They went to the cafeteria and Alex felt embarrass, Lucinda shows some kind of disgust on her.

"I am not blaming you for anything Alex, I know the story."

Alex was surprised.

"What story?"

"How you ended up with my son, the beach house, the wedding, he told me everything. I actually blamed him, all the things that happened and still happening to him, it is my son's fault. And it's all because he loves you so much."

"I'm sorry...I know it's my fault..."

"No it's not, but I want to know one thing and I want you to be honest with me Alexandra."

Alex look at Lucinda, she's troubled because Lucinda is more frightening than Ace when she's angry.

"Do you love my son?"

Alex was surprised with Lucinda's question, how would she react. This is not the right time for Lucinda might misinterpret her. But there's no point in denying the truth. Lucinda needs to know.

"I did...and I still am, I love your son more than anything."

"Then don't give up on him Alex."

"I can't promise you anything..."

Lucinda stopped her.

"You don't need to promise me anything, if you really love my son stop being stubborn."

Alex didn't know how to react.

"Stop this nonsense and make my son happy."

Then Lucinda left her.

Alex quit her job and personally takes care of Ace. When he checks out in the hospital Alex made some arrangement and took him to his private island. Her ex-in-laws supported her decision. Ace needs to regain his strength and the island is the best place.

But Ace doesn't like the idea but he's too weak to disagree, so he just goes with the idea, until he regains his strength. Alex taking care of him is a wonderful idea. But Ace can't find comfort in that. Being with Alex is what he wanted, but that was before he had an accident.

As he regains his strength Ace decides to face Alex.

"Are you doing this because my parents ask you to?"

"You know I won't do things because someone asks me too." Alex smiled.

"Yeah right!" Ace is sarcastic.

Alex is confused then she realized she does things without her own accord like smiled with the customer at branch 1 even if she's not in the mood. Being the face of Affluent, their wedding in the beach a couple of years ago and the lists goes on.

But how can she tell Ace that she's taking care of him because she still loves him. Ace might laugh at her.

"What do you really want Alex?" Ace eyes is cold again, he had that creepy look again.

"I wanna take care of you."

"I'm good, we can go back to the city. You don't have to burden yourself anymore."

"I'm sorry Ace, if only...If I have not been so harsh on you that evening...if only I stayed things wouldn't be like this."

"If only I haven't kidnapped and drugged you Alex things would be different. This is my entire fault, really, we're both miserable because of my selfishness."

"No Ace, things happened for a reason and we can start all over again."

"I told you that already but you refused the offer."

"It's not yet too late for us Ace."

"There is no us Alex, you had your chance and you blew it. There will be no us anymore; it's finally over between us. God gave me another life and I am not going to waste it. I will have a new life Alex and I'm sorry to say this but I don't want you to be part of that life."

"You don't mean that." Alex smiled at Ace.

"No, I do, I really do. When that truck hit me that evening I thought that would be my end, that's what I want, and I thought it was really the end of my life...then I saw your face...your smile...you are happy, you are happy because I said goodbye."

Ace eyes are misty, and so does Alex.

"No Ace, I would never be happy without you."

"Yes you are, you will be Alex...Goodbye.!"

This is not the end folks, lot of things will soon happen, as I have said, I will update every day, till the end. But the downside MILLION MILES AWAY & THE HAUNTING will be put on hold, but it won't take long, there's few chapters left on this story so please MILLION MILES AWAY & THE HAUNTING readers bear with me.

Just so you know, there's 7 or 8 chapters left, if I publish 1 chapter per day, this story will go on for a week. (If my internet connection won't fail me) So HAUNTING & MILLION readers, you won't wait too long; I mean that's exactly the number of days before I update another chapter right. So...
