Chapter 16 (Nicer Ace)

After dinner Ace asks Alex to have a moment with her.

"There is something I need to tell you." Ace said.

"Why the secrecy? you can say what you want and tell me what you want in front of your friends. I mean, you guys have no secrets after all if it's about me right?" Alex sarcasm is always intact when he's talking with Ace.

Ace stands up and hand her the long stemmed rose from the table.

"I never had a chance to buy you flowers but I personally picked this one from the garden." Ace bends his knee in front of Alex. "I know I've done terrible things and no proper words can be uttered for you to be able to forgive me but from the bottom of my heart, I'm sorry Alex. Just tell me what I should do, anything for you to forgive me."

"Anything?" Alex asks.

"You really don't wanna go and agree with that." Tony butts in "You wouldn't do it Ace, trust me!" Tony shook his head slightly.

"Yeah" Chase agreed "just say you're sorry and that's it!"

Ace been confused but his friends are right, when he asks Alex what should he do to forgive him and she can asks anything there's a spark in her eyes. Alex might ask for her freedom and that would be the last thing Ace wanted to give her. He took his friends advice.

"I'm sorry" he said then he stands up and left the flower on Alex's lap and left the dining table.

"Is he for real?" Alex is confused. "What happened to Mr. High and mighty?"

No one answered, they just smiled at Alex, a teasing smile.

When Alex went to sleep, there's no Ace coming in their bedroom. she waited and waited for that horrible moment to come, the forcing moment to sleep with Ace but nothing! There was no Ace. She felt asleep worried that the moment may come anytime but she woke up the next morning and surprised when she saw Ace sleeping on the couch.

She didn't wake him up and didn't bother to ask. 'That is a good thing' she said to herself while she went downstairs. when she reached the kitchen Alex saw the bouquet of roses waiting for her, it was neatly arranged beside the coffee machine and there's note.

"Alright, how did you do this Michelle" Alex motions her hand on the flowers, Tony and Michelle is having coffee while they make breakfast.

"Uh-hmm, not me! that's Ace, he picked the flowers and arranged it personally. Tony and Chase were with him when he picked those flowers."

"The devil is sleeping on the couch in our room, how he can pick flowers."

"He just went upstairs after he's done with the flowers." Tony said "We stayed up last night with Chase and out of nowhere he went outside and picked those flowers he said you might like it."

"Do you like it? and please don't say no because I saw that smile in your face when you read the note." Michelle teased Alex

"Don't you dare tell him that?"

Later that afternoon, Tony and Chase played chess with Alex, Michelle and Chloe on the beach.

"Where's Ace?" Chloe asks.

"He'll be here later." Michelle answered.

A moment later Ace came with a guitar.

"You are going to play that?" Tony asks.

"Yup" Ace smiled he's in a merry mood.

Tony including their friends plastered surprise look. It's been a while since Ace played a guitar. In fact, it's been years after his fiancee broke the engagement Ace never touches and play his guitar collection.

Ace arranged the tune of the guitar strings and when he found the right tune he started to strum, the song is 'everything I own' of the bread.

You sheltered me from harm.

Ace looked at Alex but Alex is not looking at him and her eyes is focused on the chess board, Ace continue.

And I would give anything I own.

Just to have you back again. 

Alex can't help but admire Ace, knowing how to play the guitar is one things she admired in a man and Ace is really good not to mention his voice.

You taught me how to laugh.

And I knew from watching you. 

Alex looks at Ace and their eyes meet.

Nobody else could ever know,
The part of me that can't let go. 

For the first time Alex looks at Ace without anger in her eyes and her heart, it's starting to beat differently. Alex felt a very strange feeling, what she feels is really stranger to her because it's something new.

Alex look down for Ace might notice that her heart starts to soften a bit but the song and his voice, Alex turns her eyes back at Ace.

'Jeez those lyrics' Alex thought, it strike through her.

"No way!" Alex said and went inside the house.

"Uh-oh, she's troubled..." Chase said melodiously.

"Big trouble!" Chloe winked at Chase.....
