Chapter 23 (Confrontation)

Alex rushed to Ace's office after her conversation with the lawyer, when she arrives Michelle welcomes her.

"Is he in there?"

"You should have called first."

"Michelle please I need to talk to him."

"He's with a client right now and..."

Alex ignored Michelle and rushes herself through Ace office, she doesn't believe Ace is with a client, he's just making excuses not to see her. When Alex came in she froze because Ace is really have a meeting with a client. Ace didn't hide the anger from his face and in his eyes when he saw Alex and it's obvious he doesn't like her presence.

Alex gathered her courage and said: "We need to talk."

Ace has no reaction but the serious look on his face didn't change.

"Ace please..." Alex eyes turned misty.

"I'm with a client, can't it wait till I go home?"

'You don't go home anymore' Alex uttered those words to herself only, it's been a month. First, the cold treatment then business trips but Ace came home still but this past four weeks he never came home anymore. No communication, she tried to reach him patiently but Ace continuously ignored her then the divorce paper.

The client clears his throat "I'm afraid I have to go Mr. Ace, I'm also going to meet someone else and..."

"Don't make excuses!" Ace reply with his client "We will finish this today, now!" Ace look at Alex, there is a warning look on his face then he said: "Michelle could you please escort this woman outside my office.

'This woman' Alex can't believe how Ace address her? not my wife... not babe like he called her...not even Alex but this woman like she's a stranger.

Alex wanted to burst in tears but he composed herself, this is not the right place. She looks at Michelle and saw a pity look on her face.

"I'm so sorry Alex."

"You don't have to apologize; this is my fault you're right I should have called first."

"I really don't know what to say Alex."

"Just tell him to come home tonight; I really need to talk to him."

"Okay" Michelle smiled at her.

HOME, later that evening...

"Do you really need to humiliate me in front of a client?" Ace is furious.

"Humiliate you, are you serious? What about me?"

"I never told you to just barge in; you deserved what happened there."

"I'm your wife Ace, do I need an appointment to see you?"

"You just can't barge in at my office."

"And what should I do wait for you? You never come home, you didn't answer my call, and then you send your lawyer to give me the divorce paper. How could you Ace?"

Ace didn't answer; he just drew a deep breath.

"Did you learn that from your ex-fiancée....is this how you will end things between us? Just like how your ex-fiancee end things with you."

Ace stops her.

"Don't even go in there Alex! This is totally different and I'm not her." Ace is still angry.

"At least your ex has the decency to call, but you Ace..." Alex eyes turn misty.

"STOP!" Ace turn his back at her, put his hand on his pocket as he looked at the ceiling, again he took a deep breath. "You will have the house." Ace said after he calms himself. "You'll get alimony."

"I don't need your money Ace and I don't need this house." Alex control her tears.

"It's better this way Alex."

Alex took the folder at the table and signed the paper without saying a word. Then she went to their room and start packing some of her stuff. Ace followed her, he grabs her suitcase.

"What are you doing Alex?"

Alex didn't answer; there is nothing left for her in this place.

"Will you stop?" Ace grabs her, but she's determined.

"Let me go!" Alex look into his eyes, firmly, she didn't back down, she didn't cry.

Ace saw that look again, anger, disgust, Alex hates her. He let go of her.

"You get what you want Ace, it's about time I should get mine, my freedom!"

And then Alex left.

Seven months later, Ace and Alex divorced has been finalized. He never heard from Alex again since she left. She didn't accept the house and the alimony. Tony said Alex is presently working as a cashier in a 24 hours grocery store somewhere far away from the state.

"She's living a low profile." Tony said "After what happened she changes her identity. New hair, eye glasses, contact lenses, she barely talk to anyone and she even change her name."

"Is she okay?" Ace concern is genuine.

"Yeah I guess, Chase and Chloe visit her but she refused to talk to them, I tried to contact her also, me and Michelle but nothing."

Ace felt guilty.

"Where is she?"

"I don't think she would talk to you either."

"Where is she?" Ace is persistent.

"Nevada"

Ace went to Nevada to talk to Alex and convince her to take what she deserved. The house and the money from his alimony. Tony said Alex rented a cheap motel but he never thought it's this cheap. The room is literally small and everything is in there, kitchen, a single bed and a bathroom.

Ace talked to the owner of the motel and she let him in. According to the owner Alex will be home soon "her shift is going to be finish in an hour." that's what the owner said. But Alex didn't come home that evening, Ace waited but there's no Alex come home to that cheap motel room. The next morning Ace wanted to go at her workplace but there's that chance Alex might not talk to him. So he patiently waits for Alex, he waited patiently until the door suddenly opens.

 It was Alex and Ace is shocked with what he saw.

"Jesus! Alex! what happened to you?"
