{Spring}
———————-
"Ah shit," I grumbled as I stood on the step ladder to fix a gaping hole in the side of the horse barn. I called to my lover, "Can you hand me a wooden plank and my medium hammer?" She scurried away, longer white dress blowing beautifully in the wind. She swiftly returned with the items, "are you sure this will work? It doesn't seem as if it will."
"Well, it'll just be something to hold it over until I can get someone more professional to come look at it."
She nodded, "That's fine then," and walked off towards the small pond. I quickly hammered the planks to board up the hole, hoping it would just stay put. I stepped down to the ground and quickly folded the ladder, the warm spring air softening my skin. Wild flowers began to grow here and there around the property and the house looked beautiful with the big red barn and woods surrounding it. I checked up on the horses, who were all peacefully grazing, with little to no cared in this world and the next. Birds were chirping and my dog was resting with the cat on the front porch. All was perfect.
I lived with the love of my life.
I had a decent paying job after college.
I had wonderful animals who always helped my health.
My body was gorgeous, and so was my lover.
I was free.
I went to walk back Info the house when I froze in my tracks, "Oh shit," I whispered, "where is she?"
I put my ladder away and whistled to the dog, who I knew could help me find her. We walked along the tree lines and near the barn. She was nowhere to be seen.
This never happened.
Suddenly, my dog went towards the pond, I decided to follow him.
I was shocked to see her, laying on the grass behind it, deeply implanted in the wild flowers patch. She appeared to be looking at something.
I rushed over, "My dear! What on earth are you doing?!"
She sprung up quickly, smile plastered across her face. She was holding an area around her stomach. I narrowed my eyes, "What are you hiding?" I was concerned. She sat up, and held something in her arms. I gasped, "is that... a baby?!"
She shook her head and scoffed playfully, "nope, look, dumbass." I looked down over her, and saw her cradling a little deer fawn.
I was shocked upon awe, "He's precious but... how did you find him?"
"He's been laying here for the past few days; I think something happened to his mother."
I frowned, "That's too bad but... if the mother or herd member returns, we have to give him back, okay?"
She rolled her eyes, "yes, of course I, know. But two moms are better than none," she replied as I sat down with her and let her lay in my arms. She smiled as I wrapped my arms around her, whispering how she loved me and whatnot. I whispered in return call my love only to ever grow stronger.
"So... what do you think you're going to name him?" I inquired, intrigued. She lay her head on my shoulder, kissing my neck and playing with my hair. She hesitated to answer, "I haven't thought about it but I was thinking something to do with flowers and the pond, since that's where he was found."
I kissed her nose and buried my head in her shoulder, "I love you lots."
"Koi."
"Im sorry?"
"I'm going to call him Koi, just like the glorious Japanese ponds."
I smirked, comfortable at her side, "so like the one in my dream, were we began?"
She nodded, "Yes. Wanna know why?"
"Because it marks something beautiful?"
"Well yes, but because I love you. So much..."
My eyes teared up a bit, I must confess, "you're too sweet. I lucked out with making you the girl of my dreams, and hopefully- "
I was cut off by her lips on mine. She laughed softly as she pulled away, still cuddling me and the fawn between us, "glad I got you to shut up, heh."
With what, she got up, and skipped away, little deer in arms. I ran after them, "Hey, not so fast!"
When I caught up, I found myself joining her to hold the fawn as well. I pecked her cheek and smiled weakly, though advised and filled with pride.
My heart lurched with pure love derived from every rich golden era.
"I love you," we said, in unison, once more as we tend to.
