Hi all! Here is yet another forensics project story! I did use two characters of my own and added Garcia Flynn from Timeless (NBC) as well. None of this is part of any actual story, nor the plot of Timeless (NBC); it was just made for fun in the class! Thank you (:
On September 30th, 2021, at approximately 7:30 PM, authorities were notified by the landlord (named Reagan Aoki) of a town-home that a dead body was found in her client's home. The body was her client, Garcia Flynn. Mr. Flynn was late for his rent, so Ms. Aoki went to check on him; when she got to the scene the door was open, and she gingerly walked into the household. It was dark, so she turned on the lights, only to scream in horror upon finding her client's body. With that, she dialed 911, and notified authorities immediately. The first responders arrived, assisting Ms. Aoki, and getting information from her. Photographers took pictures of the scene, and specialists were notified that evidence was on its way to the lab for research. There were no (other) witnesses that were known of to police nor Ms. Aoki. People suspected that Ms. Aoki was insane and wanted the rent and killed him for the money; this was later proven to be false, for she had an alibi. She was visiting her family for dinner, and pictures, videos, and Facebook posts prove it. Upon doing further research into Flynn's background, it was revealed that he was involved with drugs and was actually a well-known dealer in the area; several inmates who were already imprisoned confirmed it, as well as the stashes hidden in his couch and in his bamboo plant (next to his bed side). As mentioned previously, a body (1), a couch (2), a wad of cash (3), a pile of blood spatter (4), shattered glass (5), a bed (6), a shotgun (7), an eaten apple core (8), and a bloody knife (9). All these pieces of evidence are important to the case, but some can be classified as "irrelevant" to the case unless proven otherwise. These pieces of evidence include:
The eaten apple core (8)
It is unclear if the apple core is of relevance to the case, but DNA tests for saliva can indeed be conducted in order to figure out who consumed it, whether from Mr. Flynn himself or his killer, we can bag that evidence for testing later.
Autopsy and Outcome:
The autopsy on Garcia Flynn's body displays that he was stabbed to death; it is likely that he tried to fight back, because his knuckled were clenched and had marks on them. The blood on the knife was tested and revealed to be similar, if not, a match, to Flynn's. This was ruled a homicide/murder. There are many suspects who could have done this, but the main suspect is Tomaniya Kov. She was a notorious gang member who reportedly frequently harassed Mr. Flynn for his products. They were once friends, nearly brother and sister, but then grew into enemies, as disputes erupted between the two regarding money. Ms. Kov was known for being violent and even the worst of her kind strayed away from her. It is likely that her fury overcame once more, and blinded in her unstable rage she murdered Mr. Flynn, her past with him and their memories fading finally. Her motivation was money and taking over his business so she could become even more powerful. Her fingerprints, or at least ones similar, were found at the scene and were on the couch, perhaps looking for drugs before a dispute broke out.
It is reported that police surrounded her home weeks later in mid-October of 2021, finding loads of drugs and money; this includes all the stash in which Mr. Flynn had. She surrendered to the police, for she could not escape this time, and was taken into custody. Later, she testified, and pleaded guilty for murder and homicide, as well as the possession of various illegal drugs; she confessed to entering his home and killing him and cold blood, then fleeing the scene shortly after stealing his drugs. He tried to fight back, but her stabs were no match for his half-asleep and drunken daze. The DNA on the apple belongs to Mr. Flynn. It is likely that she will be in prison for life without parole.
