Chapter 15 - Same Old Routine

~ Nikki's POV ~

What the hell did I just say?

My mind kept weighing the pros and cons of my decision to allow Jace to live with me. There would be so many awkward times between us, we will undoubtedly have fights, and maybe he'll leave me for someone he values me again.

However, on the positive side, I could get to know Jace a lot better and maybe - just maybe - he will realise how much he means to me.

Brielle has told me multiple times that I was stupid to think I had a close connection with Jace after only knowing him for a couple of days. It wasn't only her, Finn too told me that it was unreasonable but I guess I can't help my feelings. I had finally found someone that cared about what I was doing with my life and I trusted that person blinded because I wasn't used to getting so much attention from one person.

"Nikki. Are you listening?" Liam shook me by the shoulders, bringing me back to reality.

"Um, sorry. What did you say?" I asked, listening this time.

"More like what did you say?" Liam put emphasis on the 'you'. "A few days ago you were mad at Jace and now you're offering to let him live with you?"

Liam's tone was half statement, half question.

Before I could reply, Liam added, "Don't get me wrong. I really want you two to sort things out with each other, but I have a feeling that staying in the same apartment will make things harder for both of you."

I understood where Liam was coming from, but there was a fifty-fifty chance that Jace and I could overcome our problems if we were closer to each other.

"I know, but Jace doesn't have a place to live and I don't want anybody else to be troubled because there isn't enough room for one person." I explained.

Jace looked a little taken back by my little speech but I didn't try to make him feel better because he deserved a little bit of pain after what he has done to everyone in the past.

"It's fine, Nikki." Jace spoke up. "I'll go home or something and I will honestly come back a couple of times a week to see all of you. If my parents don't give me a place to stay again, I'm sure Renee will let me crash on her couch."

The name of his ex-girlfriend instantly made me jealous for some reason, I had no feeling for Jace anymore.

That's not what it seems like. My subconscious reminds me.

"Seriously. It's cool." I didn't want my jealousy to be evident. "You wanted a second chance and you'd get that if you stayed. Plus, you can't make a three hour drive every second day just to see us. You couldn't even call once before."

Jace opened his mouth to argue with me about not calling, but he snapped his mouth shut when he realised that I was right.

Liam was thinking about what I said. "Dude, she's right. I guess that there's no harm in staying with a friend."

He smirked at me, as if he was looking for confirmation whether Jace and I were 'just friends'.

I glared at him and didn't reply. Liam and I both stared at Jace as he weighed his options, not that there was a lot to choose from. It was either my place or his home town.

"Okay." He said. "I'll move in."

I grinned widely and gave Jace a hug. He grabbed me around the waist and lifted me a few inches of the ground. When I realised how close I was to Jace, I pulled away and took a step beside Liam.
