Chapter 18 - Happiness Is Expensive
~ Nikki's POV ~
Everything was fuzzy because of my sleepy state, and I had to blink rapidly a few times so that my vision was clear. I jolted up quickly, making my head spin, when I realised that Jace was standing at the door and fuming.
"What are you doing, Jace?" I didn't bother trying to hide my annoyance. He was the one who let me leave the club in a bad mood and now he wouldn't even let me rest peacefully in my own apartment.
"What are you doing?" Have scowled at me, twisting his face in anger.
"We were watching a movie." Dean answered for me.
"That's not what it looked like!" Jace growled, obviously not noticing the sound coming from the television. He added, quite rudely, "I didn't ask you, either."
"Stop being so rude." I warned Jace in the sternest voice I could possibly make, "I offered you a place to stay so I suggest that you go to the spare room or leave and only return when you've found your manners."
Jace scoffed, surprising me since he was the one who kissed a stranger in order to make me jealous.
"You know I could easily return home. so could live with my parents or Renee, I don't need you whatsoever." Jace's voice moved in my small apartment. "It's not my fault that you always throw yourself at me!"
While my jaw was dropped in surprise, Dean attempted to defended me without offending the drunken jerk who was at the door. "Jace, you're drunk so if I was you, I would stop speaking before I said something to Nikki that I'd regret."
"Yeah, well, you aren't me, so shut your mouth." Jace barked.
I saw Dean take a step towards Jace and I took at step to block him, which was my first instinct.
"Dean, the movie is almost finished. You should leave." I have him a weak smile, telling him that I didn't want him to get involved in the feud between Jace and I.
I saw Dean open his mouth, clearly so he could object what I said, so I added, "Please."
My eyes pleaded him and I was practically whining. He didn't need to stress himself because of me or Jace.
"Call me if you need anything." Dean finally agreed. I nodded and gave him a hug, which made Jace scoff like an insane person.
Alcohol and Jace were a combination I dreaded seeing ever again.
Once Dean walked out of the apartment, I shut the door so that we wouldn't irritate any of the other residents, and then stared at Jace with my hands on my hips.
You do know that you don't look the least bit intimidating, don't you? My subconscious was making me doubt myself at the worst time possible.
"I throw myself at you?" I questioned Jace, referring to the point he had made a couple of minutes ago. "I am generous enough to give you a proper living condition after you lied to me and ran away and you say that I'm throwing myself at you?"
"Maybe you should think about your decisions before you make them." Jace took a swig from a bottle in his hand, which I had just noticed. "You only have one spare room so you can't have Dean and I both staying, unless you plan on sleeping with either one of us."
Tears rimmed my eyes and spilled without permission. I hated that Jace could do this to me - before I met him, I never cried over anything no matter how bad it was. Now I cry about the smallest things and it was all Jace's fault. He had some sort of controlling power over me which made my emotions rise high.
