Chapter 8 - Rumours Are Accepted By Idiots.
~ Jace's POV ~
I held Nikki in my arms while she cried unstoppably. It hurt me to see her in this state, and the fact that people try to put Nikki down makes really pushes my buttons.
When I met her a few days ago, I didn't see her as the many girls I've seen before. I didn't want to sleep with her and then forget it ever happened. I felt a feeling that I was unfamiliar with, I wanted to get to know her and my mood lifted every time I saw her or when someone mentioned her name.
I decided to break the long lasting silence. "Nikki, it's alright. I'm here for you. Me, Kyle, Liam and Hailey are all here for you." My words just made her sob even harder.
Good going, Jace.
I didn't say anything else after that, I just let her cry out all her emotions. After a while, Nikki pulled away and talked.
"I'm sorry." She apologised for no reason.
"Hey, Nikki you haven't done anything wrong." I grabbed her hand. "There is no reason for you to apologise."
She let go off my hand to wipe her tears and clean up the mascara that had spread slightly. "This is the last time I cry because of my family. They don't get the pleasure of seeing me hurt."
Believe it or not, a lump had formed in my throat. Nikki looked so strong yet she broke down so easily. "I'm going back to class. Pick me up 2:30." She gave me her best smile, even though it was forced. "Please."
"Nikki, you don't have to do this." I wipes the couple of tears that were starting to dry on her soft cheeks.
"I want to." Nikki replied.
"Okay, ignore what people say. You know it isn't true." I smiled at her, have her a hug and she opened the door and walked back into her school.
She was nothing like the other girls I've met before. And I liked it.
~ Nikki's POV ~
I walked confidently back into school with my head high and no sign of sadness. I made my way to room forty-two and knocked on the door.
Mr Highland opened the old, wooden door and gave me a genuine smile. "Hello, Nikki. Is there any reason why you're late?"
"I went to the sick bay, I was feeling well." I explained.
"Of course she wasn't." I heard someone whisper and tried my best to ignore it. "You know it's not true" Jace's words kept replaying in my head.
Mr Highland narrowed his eyes at the class and turned back to me. "Take a seat, Nikki."
My eyes scanned the room to see if Brielle was in this class. Unfortunately, she wasn't. On the plus side, however, Julie and neither of her 'followers' were in this class either.
The front row was empty, as usual, so I sat right in the middle.
I spent the period coping math problems of the board and solving them, in silence, while everyone else talked to their friends.
I packed up a few minutes before the bell rang and stared at the blank walls.
The bell rang and students wrestled in the corridors to get to lunch. I was surprised that it was already 11:30. I walked into the canteen, got myself a chicken wrap and a can of Coke, and then made my way outside.
"Nikki! Wait a second!" I recognised Brielle's voice and turned.
She stumbled and almost fell face first.
