Chapter 19 - Priorities
~ Jace's POV ~
I woke up with a throbbing head and baggy eyes, the usual aftermath of a night spent drinking.
After stumbling a few times I found my balance and made my way over to the kitchen, not bothering to take a look in the mirror because I knew I looked horrible.
I found a note sitting on the kitchen island, held in place with the weight of a mug. It read:
Left for work while you were sleeping. Should be home by 6, see you later.
Nikki xx
I folded the note in half and placed it back on the counter. The first thing that came to my mind was coffee, which I found to be the best cure for hangovers. As the coffee brewed, some flashbacks of last nights events played through my head, however, I don't know if I was remembering everything - being angry at Nikki for putting on way too much make up and overdressing herself, getting too close for comfort with Dean and then me kissing Sophia at the club to annoy Nikki.
That was one hell of a night.
I poured the coffee in a mug and sat down at the dining table. Running my hands through my hair, I let out a loud sight. I don't know why I reacted the way I did last night. After all, it wasn't any of my business, was it?
My stomach grumbled, signalling that I was in need of 'real food'. There was a pack of cinnamon donuts sitting on the table, I scoffed down two donuts and finished my cup of coffee in the hopes that the feeling of guilt, anger, and jealousy would go away.
And yet people thought that girls were the only ones who ate to de attach themselves from unwanted feelings.
I went back to my bedroom and grabbed my phone. There was a message from one unknown number and three messages from another number.
After reading the first message, I realised that it was from Dean.
Hey, man. It's Dean, got your number from Liam. Just wanted to let you know that nothing happened between Nikki and I. We were just watching a movie. Cheers, Jace.
I felt like Dean was the villain and I was the only one who could see how bad he really was.
I opened the texts from the other number, which came at 2 o'clock in the morning, and let out a groan when I say the sign off 'Sophia x'.
Last night was fun. Should hang out again soon.
Hope everything is good, you went off without telling anyone last night.
Call me x
The last thing I wanted to do today, or any other day, was call Sophia. However, if something more than a kiss did happen between us, I owed an apology and explanation to her.
I tapped my foot while the phone rang, it was a habit whenever I got nervous.
"Morning, Jace." Sophia chirped in her irritating, high pitched voice. I glanced at the clock, it was 12:05 pm. I guessed that she had just woken up like me.
"Um, hey. You texted me, saying that I should call..." What else was I supposed to say? Did we do the dirty last night?
"Yeah, I had fun hanging out with you. We should meet up sometime soon." I wasn't really open to Sophia's suggestion.
"When you say fun, what exactly do you mean?" Curiosity got the best of me and the anticipation was killing me on the inside.
Sophia let out a small chuckle on the other end of the line and I could practically hear the smirk in her voice.
