Chapter 24

    River

When me and Draco were kids, it was an immediate connection. We had always been best friends, he tried his best to protect me from whatever came my way, even my father when he was angry. It's like it was always us, we made each other feel safe, we couldn't be apart.

Of course all happiness comes to an end at some point, it may come back but in a split moment, it's ruined. By a person, an object, a statement. In my case, it was of course, the dark lord who I don't consider as much of lord anymore. He was nothing more than a coward who ruined me.

" River!"

I turned my head to see Luna running towards me, she quickly wrapped her arms around me causing me to stumble backwards hitting Draco.

A smile grew on my face, " Hi Luna!" I replied as we pulled out of the hug.

She moved her blonde hair out of her face and let out an excited squeal, " We haven't seen each other at all this summer! Have you been okay? I heard what happened before school ended and I was just so upset to hear about what Bellatrix had did!" She said her smile turning into a concerned frown.

I let out a soft chuckle, " I'm great Luna, thank you for the concern but all is taken care of." I replied still keeping a smile on my face.

She let a breath out, " Well that's good, care to join Neville, Hermione and I in a compartment?" She asked nicely.

I turned to look at Draco who was looking down at me awkwardly.

" Can Draco sit with us too?" I asked hoping she didn't hate him or anything, I knew what people thought of him.

Then again everyone knew he killed Voldemort so I don't know how bad of a reputation he could have, he saved everyone.

Luna looked up at him then back to me, " Of course! Come on, the trains leaving soon." She then began walking towards the train.

I looked up at Draco and he smiled down at me, I grabbed onto his hand and we walked together onto the train.

6th year... okay, I mean it can't be to bad, Voldemort wasn't alive to kill anyone so I'm hoping all will be dealt with.

We followed Luna down the isle to one of the compartments that Neville, Luna and Hermione were already sitting in.

Draco looked down at me with a nervous look so I made myself taller and kissed him quickly, " They don't hate you like you think they do." I said already knowing what he was thinking.

As I sat down next to Hermione she smiled at me, "Hey! How was your summer?" She asked scooting over to the wall so Draco could fit in.

I shrugged, "Pretty boring, there's not much to do at the Manor." I replied blankly.

Draco nudged me, " No! you said my piano skills were amazing!" He defended.

" Draco your piano skills are you banging on the keys."

He scoffed making me giggle a little, he truly did suck at piano.

" Well, seems like you two had fun." Hermione added.

I raised an eyebrow at her, " why aren't you with Harry and Ron?"

She sighed but kept the smile on her face, " The boy who lived has gained an ego, he talks shit about you even though I told him the reason for what you did but he's still being immature. The dark lord is dead and he still won't shut up about it."

I let out a soft laugh, " That's not a surprise."

Once we finally made it to Hogwarts I walked in with Draco, it took me a second before spotting Adrian and Miles across the room. Excitement filled me and I let go of Draco's hand. I ran over to them and jumped into Adrians arms, I caught him off guard I could tell but he eventually hugged me back.

" Well hello there Snape." He said with a chuckle.

" I missed you I missed you I missed you!!" I said twirling us around while still staying in the hug.

" what am I? Chop liver?" Miles asked crossing his arms playfully.

I scoffed and let go of Adrian, " Yes yes I missed you to Miles." We smiled at each other and I wrapped my arms around his neck pulling him into a hug as well.

" Good because I would hate for that feeling to be one sided."

I shook my head and turned back to Draco who was standing pretty close behind me, I gave him a smile that he returned quickly, I hoped he was doing alright now... I know the whole killing the dark lord thing can be overwhelming.

"Hey man! How was your summer?" Adrian asked  Draco as we began walking to the Slytherin table.

He shrugged, " It was good until River insulted my piano skills."

I rolled my eyes jokingly, " There is no skill there Malfoy."

" WOWW" He yelled dramatically.

I let out a small chuckle as we sat down in our usual spots before they could get taken.

Adrian and Draco talked for a while just about quidditch and how their excited for the new season to start. Honestly I kind of regret not taking the chance of being on the team last year when Adrian offered it to me, that was really stupid on my part.

I didn't even have time to jump into the conversation before the first years started walking into the great hall, they looked so small and innocent, they had no idea what was waiting for them in a few years.

Hopefully it would be nothing like this story.
