Chapter 7

River

Only about a week later it was already time for Winter Break, Malfoy had gotten unusually quite keeping all his snarky remarks to himself. In fact i don't think i heard one bad thing come out of his mouth, towards me anyway.

He did however never talked to anyone unless they talked to him, and it was always a short answer like 'yes' or 'no' nothing much more.

I was in Hermione's dorm watching her pack all of her things for the break. She was rambling on about her parents muggle job and how being a dentist is pretty interesting to watch. I tried to listen to her words but all i could think about was how this Christmas would go at the Manor, thinking about receiving my first task from the dark lord seemed terrifying. Especially since it's basically a waiting game.

" But anyways, where are you going for the break? Back home with Snape or staying here?" she asks zipping up her bags.

I forgot she hadn't known i was a death eater, it was pretty easy keeping it a secret because i haven't had anyone ask me anything that i had to lie about yet.

" Oh- Severus wants me to come back home with him." I replied awkwardly, she nods not suspicious. "I should probably go grab my trunk, the train will be leaving soon." I say trying to get out of there before she asks anymore questions.

"Okay! I hope to see you before the train takes off but if I don't have a good break." She says with a smile.

I return her smile " Yeah of course!" I quickly make my way out of her dorm and to the Slytherin common room, Malfoy was in there sitting with Adrian. They both turn around to look at me, Malfoy immediately looks away.

" Sorry, i didn't mean to interrupt." I say making my way to the girls dormitories.

" You didn't interrupt anything, you're good." He winks at me, I give him a awkward smile before walking up the stairs and into my dorm. My roommates were already down at the train so i quickly grab my trunk and walk down to the common room again.

" Shut the hell up, the train is leaving soon we have to go." Adrian finished saying.

I walk out of the common room and outside to the train. People were surrounding the train trying to push through others so they can get a good spot. I stuff my trunk in a random place and make my way through the crowd pretty easily.

Malfoy followed close behind me as i sat with Flint.

" Why are you sitting with us?!" Flint snaps towards me, Malfoy sits down next to me leaving an empty seat next to Flint.

I look at him confused, " Because I can?" Pansy gets in the compartment and sits next to him.

" Nobody even fucking likes you River, you can go sit somewhere else." Pansy adds, Obviously they think i did something because they had never been this rude before.

" Can you two shut up? It's annoying how often you make fun of her." He says putting his chin in his hand. He looked different, sort of... sad.

" Hey, are you okay?" I whisper so neither Pansy or Flint could hear me.

" I'm fine." He replies flickering his grey eyes over to me. " Are you? I know you're probably nervous about going to the Manor." He says leaning back in the seat with his legs apart and his hands resting on them. His rings sparkled in the sun light.
