Chapter 6

Mikes P.O.V

We finished the rest of our shift without too much incident. Whenever an animationic came Verity would simply cover her face in her beanie and they would leave her alone. Her nonchalent atitude reminded me of Dolls. Doll, the one who is always put with her "friends", her phone was buzzing all evening the other day. The liar. She thinks im so stupid. Wait a minute, our shift is nearly done, just finish it for tonght. Of course it was still only the first night of the week. 6:00 am Ding ding Yayyy!! We all got up to leave, and I offered to drive Verity home. "No," she smiled. "I live nearby, I can walk."  I gave Jeremy a look as to say, I'm not too sure about this. We simply shrugged and agreed. She looked a bit uncomfortable as we walked out, glaring at the animations as we passed by. As Jeremy and I got into the car he burst out, "I r-really d-don't think t-this is a g-good idea m-mike!" I sighed. "Me either."

Jeremy's P.O.V.

Mike watched as Verity walked on a path I had never seen before, (*cough* stalker *cough* jeremy run) and I knew this area quite well. It was still pretty dark, so she didn't notice as we got out of the car and followed her. At least, that's what we thought. We kept walking, so concentrated on the task at hand that we didn't notice we were being followed. "Going out for a morning stroll are we?" A voice called out behind us, Verity was about 70 feet away, so she kept walking. We turned around to see a group of boys in all black surround us.

Verity's  P.O.V.

Those nightguards just couldn't stay away hmm? I guess I'll just take the route to my friends house. Wait a minute. Something was wrong. I circled around silently, as I'd learned to do over the years. The were surrounded by that biker group that was so annoying. Dang it. Im really tired too. I pulled out my pepper spray and knife. They wouldn't even see me coming. I grinned tiredly, "this oughta be fun."

Mike's P.O.V.

"We don't want any trouble fellas." I stepped closer to Jeremy. "Of course you don't." The leader grinned, he stepped closer to us, a bat with a spike on the tip in his hands. Oh man his teeth, the ones that weren't missing were yellowed and black in some places. I could smell his breath from here. Suddenly a grey and blue blur tackled him and he screamed covering his eyes. Blood spurted from the person next to him's knee as I saw that familiar blond braid whip around all the gang members one by one, completely at random. Blood was everywhere. At the end, they all inevitably ent up unconscious on the ground. I stared at Verity, she was bearly out of breath, and I was absolutely shocked. Verity bowed and said, "now if you'll excuse me, I'll be heading home." She turned around dramatically, "wait!" I called out, regretting it the moment I said it. She turned around and snapped "what?!" I got courage up, she's like, 14! Then I remember the past few minutes. "there's no houses this way." Her eyes widened a little as she quickly stammered "Y-yes there are, you've just, not been around my house before." I didn't believe her. "Then could you show us? We just want to make sure you're safe, I'm sure your parents are worried sick about you." Her eyes hardened. "Believe me they're not." We had a staredown for a minute, she won, but then she sighed, her shoulders slumped a little. "Listen, I do have a place to live, it's a little embarrassing though, so could you not follow me home? You both look really tired, I'm sure you want to go home and sleep, right Jeremy? Oh goodness, I hadn't even thought about Jeremy. This was his first night shift and he just saw a ton of blood and violence. He looked dead on his feet. Poor kid. Verity was right, we decided to just go home, "will you come to the pizzeria tomorrow night? You'd be a big help." I asked quickly before we left. She smiled a bit "Sure mike, I'll be there."

Jeremy's P.O.V

I am so tired on so many levels. Every muscle in my body hurts and my ribs and face are still throbbing. When we got to mike's apartment I just wanted to flop down on the couch and sleep for a million years. What I didn't want was to see mikes girlfriend standing in the kitchen with her arms crossed and her glare at maximum power. "Why did it take so long to get home from work? Who is he," she pointed to me, "and why is there blood on the couch?" Mike dragged himself over and whispered something to her. Her arms stayed crossed and if anything her blue eyes remained chips of ice. Mike sighed in exasperation and motioned for me to follow him. I tried to avoid eye contact with mikes girlfriend as we went into his room. He threw a few pillows and blankets to me and flopped the couch cushions over so I could sleep on a clean side. My eyes closed immediately even though I heard a whisper-fight in the other room.

Mike's P.O.V

Doll didn't listen to a word I said. "Babe just let me explain, there was a girl we tried to help--" Wrong choice of words. "A GIRL?!?!?!" She exclaimed, "That's it. I'm done." I said suddenly. She looked shocked. "What?" She was trying to play innocent. Ugh. Disgusting. "Don't think I don't see your phone buzz during dinner, or the extra clothes in the room sometimes, or let's not forget how you're always "out with friends." She glared at me. "Fine. I don't need you." Those sounded like the words she said when we first met, except that was after I saved her from a gang. Like Verity did for us. I looked out as she slammed the door. Jeremy didn't stir, he looked so cute on the couch. He didn't even change into pyjamas. I carried him into my room and set him on the bed. He snuggled into me in his sleep and I felt, for the first time in forever, (get it?) Safe.
