Chapter 37

Stefan's POV
    I wake up a little earlier than normal and shower. Once I was done showering I put on some darker jeans and a white button down since I had a showing today, but before I head downstairs I get a call from Caroline.

Stefan:"Hey Care, what's up?"

Caroline:"Hey, so I know you said you wanted to make Lexi a nice breakfast this morning and I figured I'd help you out."

Stefan:"You're already on your way over here aren't you?"

Caroline:"You bet. I've got everything ready for omelettes and a few of those chocolate croissants she likes."

Stefan:"That's great, Care. So, I'll see you here in a few?"

Caroline:"Yeah, I'll be there in 5."

    She ends the call and I go downstairs ready for her to come through the door. Not a lot of time passes before I hear Caroline's bubbly voice breaks the silence in the house.

Caroline:"I'm here croissants in hand."

Stefan:"Well, Good Morning to you too."

    She walks into the kitchen and sets the bags down on the island before giving me a hug.

Caroline:"Is she still sleeping?"

Stefan:"Yeah, she should be up soon though."

Caroline:"Then that means we should get started I'll start chopping and you get started on garnish and you do the whole goat cheese and mushroom thing you do."

Stefan:"On it."

    We start prepping everything and are ready to get cooking in no time. Half way through cooking a third voice joins us in the kitchen.

Lexi:"Caroline?"

Caroline:"Hey, you're up!"

Lexi:"Yeah I didn't realize you were coming over,"

Caroline:"Well your dad mentioned that he was planning on making a nice breakfast for you today and couldn't really come up with anything so I came to the rescue with omelet supplies and your favorite croissants."

Lexi:"Oh thank you. You didn't have to-"

Caroline:"Oh shush. It's your birthday! Besides I'm more than happy to."

Lexi:"Well thanks. So....what are we eating?"

Stefan:"Aside from those oh so fancy croissants, I'm making omelets."

Lexi:"Oooh sounds good."

Stefan:"Doubt it would be?"

Lexi:"Never."

Lexi's POV
    I smile at the sound of my dad chuckling as I sit down. Caroline walks over next to my dad and grabs the pasty box that's on the counter. When she walks back over to me she opens it and offers me a croissant. I take one a give her a quick smile. Once dad finishes our omelets we all sit down and eat. I sit in silence and eat my food while dad and Caroline talk and laugh. After eating breakfast I quickly say goodbye and grab my bag. Before I start the car my dad comes out of the house quickly and calls out my name.

Stefan:"Hey, you okay?"

Lexi:"Yeah, dad. I'm fine. I just have to get to school. Last day and all."

Stefan:"Lex, talk to me."

Lexi:"Dad, I'm fine! Really. Look I just- I'm late, and I have to go. I'll see you after school, okay?"

Stefan:"Okay, I'll see you after school. Love you."

Lexi:"I love you too."

    I start the car and back out of the driveway while he walks back inside. I park on a street not too far from school and grab my blood canteen from the passenger seat. With the week I've been having I've been craving something more than just the occasional small animal every other day so I bring an extra canteen for quick pick me up. Since it's the last day of school my teachers don't really make my classes do much, but I sit there in each one thinking over this morning's events. Luckily, I don't have to think about the morning much longer because in no time the bell rings for lunch and I meet Maya in the parking lot.
