Chapter 44

Lexi's POV

    I felt like I had fumes coming out of my ears and my head was going to explode. He was an idiot! No, he was my dad, but he didn't want to admit what I already knew or he just didn't want to admit it to himself. I didn't know he could feel that. I didn't know how she could. Caroline of all people. Snaky and conniving all in one.

    I throw on a pair of sweats and my comfiest loose long sleeve ready to curl into bed and find something to distract myself with. I turn on my T.V. and plan to watch a movie to unwind, but before I can choose one I hear a soft knock at my door.

Lexi:"Come in,"

Elena:"Hey how are you feeling,"

Lexi:"You heard."

    She just nodded slightly and cracked the door open a bit further. I motioned her over with a wave of my hand and scooted over so that she could sit with me.

Lexi:"I'm sorry mom, you weren't supposed to hear that."

Elena:"I love you for wanting to shield it, but I am your mom. I'm supposed tone the one shielding you."

    She smiled and laughed quietly to lighten the mood.

Lexi:"But mom, dad how could he with her?"

Elena:"I was gone for a long time, Lex. Your dad has always been the most passionate and caring man I have even known. For as long as I've known your father, he has always put the people he loves most before anything and everything else. He deserves to put himself first for once. That doesn't mean he doesn't love you or care about what you think."

Lexi:"But mom now that you're back, he can put his happiness first. You loved each other and now you both can be happy again."

Elena:"Oh Lex, I love your dad and I always will, but him being with me now just because I'm back wouldn't do anyone any good. Think about it this way; for me it feels like I've been gone less than a few days, but for you and your dad, years have gone by. You grew up and became the beautiful and intelligent young woman I hoped you'd be and just like your feelings changed as you grew so did your dad's. Sweetheart, maybe it's time for him to really think about where his feelings and heart stand now."

Lexi:"And what if he decides that he does want to be with her? what then? Won't it hurt to see them?"

Elena:"I'm sure it'll be strange, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it."

Lexi:"IF we come to it."

Elena:"Besides you've always loved your aunt Caroline."

Lexi:"Feelings change mom, remember."

Elena:"Right. You're right."

    We talk for a few more minutes and then decide to call it a night. She leaves to her room and I just lay in my bed letting the darkness and my thoughts surround and consume me. Eventually I let my thoughts cloud my head enough to fall asleep.

    The next morning I make it out of the house before the sun rises and go for a run. As always most of the town was still in bed and everything, for the most part, was still and quiet. After about a mile and a half in I noticed a few people start coming out of their homes and getting ready for the day. I hadn't realized that my eyes began to come dark of that I was hungry at all until I felt my fangs. Quickly, I covered my mouth and ran back home as fast as I could without using my actual speed. I ran through my front door desperate for anything to relieve my hunger, so I rummaged though the pantry eating anything and everything that I could. As soon s I ripped open the first bag of chips I grabbed a handful and ate them, but mom and dad had both come down quickly startled by all of the noise I had been making.

Elena:"Lexi?! Are you okay what's going on?"

Stefan:"Lex, what happened?"

    With a mouth full of potato chips I tried to answer but couldn't. I chewed as fast as possible and then swallowed hard before actually being to say something.

Lexi:"I-I was running. I got-"

    Getting hungry again, I went in for another handful and didn't finish what I was saying. Both of my parents kneeled down in front  of me and mom stroked my hair gently.

Elena:"It's okay breathe. We'll get your blood bag."

Stefan:"I'll get Damon to bring some over."

    He went upstairs to call my uncle while I sat there trying to calm down with my mom. Eventually, my dad came back-this time- with my uncle. By now my breathing was calmer but I continued to devour my 4th bag of chips. My uncle did the same as my parents and came to crouch next to me, only he handed me a blood bag. I tried my best to take it with grace and not snatch it from his hands. Thankfully, by the time I reached the bottom of the back I was feeling much more like myself. Having to gasp for air after the final drop I thanked my uncle and asked if he had another.

Damon:"I do but take it easy alright,"

    I nodded and thanked him. My mom sat with me and made sure I was taking it slow. 

Stefan's POV

    I didn't want the for her. I would give anything for this not to be her life.

Damon:"Stefan, you can breathe."

Stefan:"I can't, Damon. She can't be a ripper. We should've come up with a plan as soon as she came home on her birthday."

Damon:"Listen to me, you need to relax because if you start spinning out of control and she sees you like this you're going to scare the hell out of her. We're all here to help her, you, and Elena, but you need to relax."

    I agree with him and just try to keep my mind clear and focused on Lexi. Once I've collected myself we walk back over to Lexi and Elena to see them still on the floor. I sit next to Lexi and hold her while she rests her head on my shoulder. Elena sat on her other side and held her hand all the while. 

Damon:"I'll give you guys some time to be with each other. Bonnie's going to be up soon, so I should get home but we'll come over later."

Lexi:"Thank you uncle Damon."

Damon:"Anytime kiddo, love you."

Lexi:"Love you too."

Elena:"Thanks Damon."

Damon:"Your welcome."

    Damon and I catch each other's sight and nod at one another before he leaves. For a while we all sit there, but eventually Lexi breaks our silence.

Lexi:"I'm scared."

    Elena and I both look down and at Lexi and up at each other as she stares at the floor. We both squeeze her tight and try our best to comfort her. This wasn't going to be easy.

    Here's an update for you guys! It's not the most exciting chapter but hopefully we can get into some complicated feelings soon haha. Even though it's not the most exciting I hope you guys like the chapter :)
