Stefan's POV
I stepped out of the room and began to call everyone. Luckily everyone picked up the phone, considering it's was almost one in the morning, I expected them to be completely asleep besides Damon. I gave them the room number, and they all began to show up. I was a little surprised to see that Damon had shown up first. He wasn't the most excited person when we told him Elena was pregnant. Eventually he came to terms with it and even became happy for us. Once everyone showed up they brought me into a hug and stood by Elena and I for comfort. Jenna, Caroline and Bonnie all surrounded Elena, asking her how she was feeling and such. I stepped out of the room for a breath of air, and before I knew it I had tears in my eyes. I was afraid that the baby wouldn't make it or that I would loose Elena. We were told at our last exam that there was a possibility of Elena having a difficult delivery, and we hadn't spoken about her turning. Although I know she'd been thinking about it after the baby got a little older, but now the baby was coming and two weeks earlier than planned. He or she was still too little. Elena wanted to be able to reach full term. I was brought out of my thoughts as I felt a hand lightly squeeze my shoulder.Damon:"Hey little brother, you okay?"
Stefan:"Yeah I'm fine."
He didn't buy it. The glimmer of previous threatening tears in my eyes and my obviously not okay state of mind was easy for Damon to read. He gave me a nudge in the direction of the waiting room chairs, indicating that he wanted to talk about what I was thinking. I noticed Alaric, Jeremy, Matt, and Tyler behind him as well. We sat down and I let out a breath.
Damon:"That's not going to fly. Now what's really going on?"
Stefan:"I'm afraid I'm going to loose her, Damon, and I'm afraid that we'll loose the baby."
Damon:"You're not going to loose Elena or the baby. I promise."
Alaric:"Damon's right."
Jeremy:"Look, Stefan. Elena is the strongest person I know. She can do this."
Words failed to escape me. I removed my hands from my face and let out a shaky breath. As the guys pat my back I gave them a slow nod. We got up and went back into the room to find Elena in extreme discomfort and edging pain. She lifted her head. Her hair was beginning to stick to her forehead and her eyes were slowly filling with tears.
Elena:"What's wrong? Where were you?"
Her voice sounded as if on the path to broken. I walked to her side at a slightly more than normal speed, and I took her hand in my own.
Stefan:"It was nothing. I just needed a second."
I placed a kiss on the back of her hand, but as soon as I removed my lips I heard her groan in pain. She was having another contraction, and it broke my heart to see and hear her going through hell. I couldn't do anything to easy the pain, and if Elena's in hell, I'm in hell. After a little while the contraction had passed and she was able to get a couple deep breaths in.
Jenna:"Lena it's not to late to get the epidural. Just say the word and we'll get the nurse in here."
Elena:"Thanks, but I don't want the epidural."
Her answer was short and sounded out of breath. Before we knew it her couple minutes of resting had flown by and another contraction came along.
-A couple hours later-
We we're all still in the room with Elena. Just being there for her. We turned our heads at the sound of the door clicking open and Dr. Fell walking in.Dr. Fell:"How's the soon to be mom?"
Her tone was slightly cheerful in order to help calm and comfort everyone. Especially Elena.
Elena:"Waiting to for this part to be over."
Dr. Fell let out a very small chuckle whilst scanning over Elena's chart.
Dr. Fell:"Well it looks like you might not have to wait for long. The last time I checked up on you you were at eight and a half centimeters dilated, so I'll have to check to make sure you're at ten centimeters now, but I think you're only a couple steps away from meeting your baby."
Jeremy:"...And that's our que to leave."
Everyone slightly chuckled and circled around the bed for a couple seconds.
Jenna:"We'll be right outside."
Everyone:"Good luck, we'll see you soon."
Once everyone left Dr. Fell began Elena's exam.
Dr. Fell:"Okay well you're at ten centimeters, so I'm going to have the nurses come in and take you up to delivery."
Stefan:"Thank you."
She gave us a warm smile before stepping out of the room. I looked back at Elena and see worry in her eyes.
Stefan:"Hey, what's wrong?"
I ask her, my voice just above a whisper.
Elena:"I'm still so scared, and the baby's still so little, and...."
Her voice trailed off, and she looked down at her stomach using her left hand to make small gentle circles against it. I had her right hand in my left one and gave it a small squeeze, while using my right hand to reach for her left hand and intertwine our fingers.
Stefan:"Hey, you're going to be okay. We're going to be okay. The baby's going to be okay."
Elena:"But that's just it. Everything needs to go perfectly."
Stefan:"If she is anything like her mother she will be strong, brilliant, and beautiful. She'll be perfect."
Elena giggled slightly, and I was just happy that I was able to make her laugh and smile even for a moment considering she's going through a lot of pain.
Elena:"She?"
Stefan:"It's just a feeling."
We laughed together just before the nurses came in to take Elena up to delivery. We passed everyone who we're still waiting outside the room, and they all lightly shouted out wishes of luck. As we walked down the hallway a million thoughts raced though my head, but the only one that stuck was that I was about to meet my baby. Something I never thought I would be able to say, and I am so undescribably happy that this all gets to happen with the love of my life.
