chapter 12

- 2 days later-
Stefan's POV
Today I got to take my girls home. I know Elena had grown frustrated of laying in bed and not being able to hold Lexi. Right now I was in the NICU waiting for the nurses to hand me Lexi, so that I could finally take her to Elena. Elena had woken up by the time we got the room.

Elena's POV
As soon as the door opened I felt a rush of happiness and excitement fill my body. The sight of the love of my life holding our daughter was the most wonderful thing I could've ever seen. Stefan sat in the bed with me and gently placed Lexi in my arms. My eyes filled with tears as I held her.

Elena:"Hey, you."

My voice was just above a whisper. I lightly brought my pointer finger against her cheek and glide it over slowly and with a feather like touch, causing her to scrunch up her nose slightly. Stefan and I laughed quietly at her adorable reaction to my touch. I felt Stefan's grip slightly tighten around me as her bent his head down slightly, so that his mouth was just barely touching my ear.

Stefan:"Marry me."

His voice was soft but firm. I turned slowly to look at him. My brown eyes locked onto his green ones.

Elena:"What?"

My tone had a small giggle in it followed by a smile. Stefan smiled just as I did and repeated himself only this time adding a bit more.

Stefan:"Marry me. Elena, you are the love of my life, and I don't want to marry you just because we have a daughter. I want to marry you because I can't live without you, because your the love of my life, and I want to spend every waking moment loving you, and being with you and our daughter."

I opened my mouth in attempt to speak but nothing followed. I looked down at Lexi and then back up at Stefan.

Elena:"Yes."

The simple word made his smile grow. He brought his hand into my hair and held the back of my head, pulling me closer to his lips. A very 'Stefan' move. We smiled into the kiss and looked back down at Lexi who began to cry. I wasn't quite sure what to do. We tried getting her to sleep and checking her diaper but nothing was working until I realized she was hungry. I had read a lot on breast feeding and taking care of babies, but Lexi was no ordinary baby. I decided to try anyway. Stefan and I were both surprised at how quickly she latched on and started feeding. We heard a knock at the door, so Stefan grabbed a blanket and covered Lexi up. We both laughed and called for whoever was at the door to come in.

Jenna:"Hi, we thought we would come by a little earlier than planned so that we could set up the car seat and everything."

Elena:"Car seat?When did-"

Alaric:"Stefan mentioned you guys hadn't gotten it yet, so we thought it'd be a nice gift."

Elena:"You didn't have to, but thank you."

We all lightly laughed.

-A few hours later-
Jenna had brought me some clothes from home, so I could finally get out of this hospital gown. I quickly got ready and got Lexie dressed too. Stefan was putting together our bag and Lexi's while I fed her.

-At Stefan and Elena's apartment-
Stefan carried Lexi's car seat with her in it and opened the door. Once I looked up I was surprised at the sight before me.

Everyone:"Surprise. Welcome home"

Matt, Caroline, Tyler, Bonnie, Jeremy, and Damon all stood there with smiles on their faces. There were streamers, balloons, gifts, and food.

Elena:"Oh my-you guys this is so sweet thank you, but who are all those from."

I pointed to the gifts in the living room.

Tyler:"My mom."

Caroline:"And my mom."

Damon:"And.."

Jeremy:"All of us."

I laughed in appreciation for everything they had done.

Elena:"Thank you guys. It means a lot."

We stepped further into the apartment and brought everyone into hugs.

Jeremy:"Ah, okay. Am I finally able to hold and meet my niece?"

We all laughed. Stefan placed Lexi's car seat on the island of the kitchen and unbuckled her. Luckily Lexi was wide awake. Stefan places her in Jeremy's arms and she just stares at him with curiosity. We all headed into the living room and just sat, talked, and ate food.

Jeremy:"She looks so much like you, Elena."

Bonnie:"Except she has Stefan's eyes."

We laughed and continued to enjoy all the company with each other until Lexi began to get fussy.

Elena:"I think she's getting tired."

Caroline:"Oh wait that reminds me. Aside from all of these gifts..."

She told Stefan and I whilst gesturing to the gifts in front of us.

Caroline:"...We have another surprise gift for you guys! Come one I'll show you!"

We walked with her in the direction of our bedroom, and everyone else followed. She opened the door, to what used to be Alaric's study, to reveal a nursery. My jaw dropped. It was absolutely perfect, and it had everything we could need; a crib, changing table, dresser, feeding station. I grabbed on to Stefan's arm and turned to face everyone.

Stefan:"Wow."

Elena:"You guys! This is amazing, but you didn't have to-"

Caroline:"Nope, Elena Gilbert I swear if you finish that sentence I won't forgive you for it. We wanted to. Besides we liked doing it didn't we boys."

She turned to face Damon, Tyler, Matt, and Jeremy, who all looked slightly embarrassed.

Tyler:"Yeah, yeah."

Matt:"I did it for Lexi."

Jeremy:"I second that."

Damon:"Only because my niece deserves the best."

We all laughed knowing they were all embarrassed because they enjoyed helping out.

Stefan:"Well thank you for everything."

Bonnie:"Don't mention it."

After I put Lexi down for a nap. We opened the remaining gifts. Soon evening hit and everyone had gone home, leaving us in a peaceful and quite home with our daughter.
