chapter 16

-The next morning-
Elena's POV
I can feel the warm Ray's of sun hit my skin. My eyes fluttered open, and I immediately looked up at Stefan. His hair was lighter than usual because the soft sun. His features were defined by the highlights and shadows. Especially his jaw. I bit my bottom lip, giggled, and nuzzled closer to him. His arm tightens around my waist, and he hums at the feel of our-still unclothed- bodies pressing together.

Stefan:"Good morning..."

He brings his lips to the top of my head and lowers his voice.

Stefan:"...Mrs. Salvatore."

I giggle and see him open his eyes as I lean upwards to kiss him. After a couple seconds we pull away, and he brought his hand up to my left one-that lay against his chest-and began to run this thumb across my ring and wedding band. Stefan's wedding band was thicker than mine. Mine was thin and very delicate. He and I smiled down at the rings, but were brought out of our little moment by the sounds laughter and dishes downstairs. I look up at Stefan who has the same furrowed brow expression that I have on my face. We slowly get out of bed, and put on some clothes. I only grab Stefan's white button up dress shirt from the wedding and a pair of black shorts. Stefan put on a pair of sweats and a t-shirt. We walk over to Lexi's room and see that her bed is very much empty. Although she no longer sleeps in a crib she still needs some help getting out of bed, so we are certain she must be downstairs with Damon since he isn't in his room either. We head downstairs hand in hand. As we get closer to the kitchen I hear an all to familiar sound of laughter. Bonnie's laugh. Stefan smiles-as he hears it too-I'm confused at his smile, but we walk in anyway, and I'm surprised at the sight before me. Bonnie held Lexi in her lap so that she was facing Damon who sat in the seat next to them. They were feeding her oatmeal and slices of mango.

Elena:"Well good morning."

Bonnie:"Oh hey, sorry she woke up, and I thought you guys could use the extra sleep."

She said still laughing at the slice of mango the Lexi was studying so intensely.

Elena:"No it's great. Thank you. I'm just confused I didn't see your car outside, but you spent the night."

She nervously laughed and looked over at Damon. Bonnie began to speak, but no words were formed only complicated stammers were uttered. It took me a second to put it together, but I finally got it. How could I have not seen it before. Her nervousness along with the fact that she was wearing one of Damon's black t-shirts gave me all the information I needed.

Elena:"Ohhhh."

Stefan chuckled beside me, and I internally smacked my forehead. Jeez Elena why did it take so long to figure it out. I then snap back into reality and realize how great this is. Squealing with excitement, I run towards Bonnie and hug her from behind.

Elena:"This is great!!"

Bonnie:"Yay! I'm glad you think so."

I untangle myself from Bonnie and see Stefan make his way over to Damon. He chuckles and steals a piece of fruit from his plate.

Damon:"You know if you're that hungry your daughter helped us make some killer waffles right over there."

We laugh and look over at the counter full of dishes and waffle batter. Stefan and I gather some waffles and fruit on a plate and sit across the table from Bonnie and Damon. We all eat contently and I begin to ask questions about Bonnie and Damon.

Elena:"So...when did this happen?"

I say smiling at them whilst gesturing back and forth between them with my fork. Bonnie blushed but answered the question.

Bonnie:"Well we haven't made anything official but pretty much a couple weeks ago."

Elena:"No way. How did you guys keep it a secret for so long."

Bonnie:"Well you know those times I took Lexi out so that you two could have some alone time..."

She was cut off by the sound of coughing and almost choking coming from Stefan and I. Bonnie quickly realized what we were thinking and jumped in.

Bonnie:"Oh no. God no...We'd never....not when we we're watching Lexi."

Damon laughed and handed Lexi another piece of mango.

Damon:"We just watched her. Sometimes we'd take her to the park, and when she'd get really tired we'd come back to the house and she'd sleep in between Bonnie and I because she didn't want to go to her room."

I look over at Stefan and he nods at me knowing exactly what I was thinking.

Stefan:"So, I guess this would be the best time to ask you guys..."

Elena:"...If you would like to watch Lexi while we're off on our honeymoon. Of course if you guys ever need alone time you have Ric, Jenna, Jer, Care, Tyler and Matt"

Bonnie:"This is going to be the best next couple days."

Damon:"..And I would love to watch this little princess for the next week."

He says whilst picking her up from Bonnie's lap. Lexi giggles uncontrollably as Damon spins her around the room. Soon after we hear the door click open and Caroline, Jenna, Alaric, Jeremy, Tyler, and Matt came walking through the door.

Caroline:"We're here."

Stefan:"In the kitchen."

Shortly after he replies, everyone comes into the kitchen with smiles on their faces. Caroline places down two bags and walks over to join all of us. The confusion I held on my face when I first walked is now shared amongst our loved ones. Although they're confused they sit and talk. After a little while Damon gets up to put the dishes he Lexi and Bonnie had used. On his way back from the sink he reaches Bonnie and places a kiss on the top of her head before sitting back down. I raised my eyebrows in surprise at the bold move but smiled. Everyone's jaw had dropped besides mine and Stefan's. Bonnie notices this and just giggles. Damon sees everyone's reaction and chuckles before filling them in.

Damon:"Oh yeah we're dating."

All the surprised reactions turned into smiles, laughs, and congratulations. We caught up with everyone until I realized there was only an hour left until we had to leave for the airport. I leave everyone in the kitchen and head upstairs for a shower.
