—The next morning—
Elena's POV
I roll over to feel Stefan's side of the bed empty. I figure he must have gone to school, and just close my eyes for a little longer. After about fifteen minutes of extra sleep I decide it's time to get up. I went into the bathroom and washed my face. I still felt a little queasy, but not as much as yesterday. Once I'm done I head downstairs to get some breakfast, but am surprised at who I see standing in the kitchen.Elena:"Stefan? What are you doing here, I thought you were at school."
Stefan:"I couldn't go. You're sick and I'm staying until you are better. Besides it's about the hundredth time I've been to highschool."
I giggle at his comment and head towards the table. We ate breakfast and he drank a bit from one of the blood bags that, I assume, Alaric had dropped off early this morning. After breakfast I went upstairs to take a shower. As I passed through my room I noticed that I had left my journal open on my dresser. I reached under the cover of it to close it when my eye caught the writing in the top left corner. The date, it didn't strike me as anything, but within just a couple of seconds my mind cleared. I began to put the pieces together, and that's when it hit me I was late! By a whole week, but what I couldn't figure out is how this was possible. I thought about it a little more, and it all finally hit me. I was tired, nauseous, and late! This couldn't be happening. It wasn't possible. Stefan and I knew this couldn't happen, I mean he's a vampire and vampires aren't supposed to be able to procreate. I needed confirmation. I couldn't base this all on some symptoms. I took in a couple deep breaths to calm down. I hopped in the shower so that Stefan wouldn't begin to worry, and come upstairs to find me all flustered. The hot water gliding through my hair and down my skin seemed to, for a second, melt everything away. After my shower I checked the time, and realized I had been in there for a while. By now it was 11:30. It was only half way through the school day. Our schools lunch started at 12:00, which gave me enough time to text Bonnie or Caroline to bring me a pregnancy test. Just to be sure that this wasn't all in my head, but I couldn't let Stefan know anything was wrong. I turned around and noticed Stefan standing at the door just staring at me, and I looked down realizing I was still just holding a towel around my body.
Elena:"Will you stop it."
Stefan:"I can't help it."
I smile at him. Finding it a lot easier than I thought to keep all of my worries down. Stefan walks up to me and places his arms around my waist, and I place my right hand on his chest. Making small circles at the center of it with my index finger.
Elena:"How about I get dressed, and I'll meet you downstairs. We can make some popcorn and watch a movie."
Stefan:"Mmm I like the sound of that. Alright I'll get started on the popcorn."
He brought his hands up to cup my face, and he placed a small kiss on my forehead. I quickly got dressed and checked my phone for any messages.
—Text messages—
Elena:Bonnie I need you to come by during lunch but I need you to bring a pregnancy test.
Bonnie:Wait what, Elena how is that possible?! You know what never mind explain when I get there I'll buy the test, and I'll be by as soon as class is over.
Elena:Thanks Bonnie, but Stefan's here. He didn't go to school, so you have to be very discreet. I haven't told him anything because I don't want to worry him until there is something to worry about.
Bonnie:Okay I'll he there soon.
—End of text messages—
A very small amount of relief was lifted from my shoulders. I put my phone in the pocket of my sweatpants and headed downstairs. I walked into the living room watching Stefan surf through the movie selection on the shelf.
Elena:"I don't smell popcorn."
I said in a giggly voice.
Stefan:"Well I called in an order at the grill. You know an actual lunch."
He said while raising one eyebrow up at me. He walked up to me and placed his hands on both of my cheeks.
Stefan:"Because you miss Gilbert need something in that stomach of yours. That hopefully won't make you sick this time."
Elena:"Why, thank you mr.salvatore."
I smiled up at him, and he placed a small gentle kiss on my nose.
Stefan:"I'm going to go pick it up. I'll be back in a few okay."
Elena:"Okay."
About ten minutes after Stefan left to go pick up our lunch Bonnie pulled into the driveway. I quickly got to the door making sure I didn't go to fast since I still felt slightly sick. As soon as I saw Bonnie my eyes glossed over with tears, and her worried eyes met mine. Without a word I took a step back, and Bonnie walked in. Immediately taking me into her embrace, holding me tight.
Elena:"We don't have a lot of time. Stefan went out for lunch."
Bonnie:"Okay. Come on let's go."
Bonnie and I went to the upstairs bathroom just in case Stefan came home earlier than we thought. Bonnie set her bag down at the edge of my bed and pulled out the test. She handed me the test and gave me a reassuring hug before I went into the bathroom. I closed the door, and opened up the cardboard box. I placed the test on the counter, and just stared at it. I knew I didn't have much time to do this, but I just couldn't bring myself to pick up the small test that could possibly change my life. I began to freak out and realized I was running out of time. After I did what I had to do I walked out of the bathroom, and I sat on the bed next to Bonnie who was waiting patiently and nervously. Three minutes passed, and I knew it was time to look. I looked over at Bonnie with panic in my eyes.
Elena:"I can't do it. Bonnie I can't"
Tears filled my eyes and slowly began to fall down my cheeks. Bonnie pulled me into a hug.
Bonnie:"I know this is hard but you have to look. I'm right here okay. I'll look for you, but I really think you should look."
Elena:"Okay....okay."
My voice raspy and barely above a whisper. I turned the test over and saw the two pink lines. I brought my hand up to my mouth and began to cry. Instantly Bonnie knew what the result was. She brought me into a hug once again.
Bonnie:"Elena..."
Before she could finish saying anything we heard the door click from downstairs.
Stefan:"Lena I'm back."
Bonnie:"You ready?"
Her voice at a whisper. I nodded. She grabbed her bag and walked behind me as we walked downstairs.
Elena:"Stefan..."
Stefan was turned around pulling the food out of the bags.
Stefan:"Hey isn't that Bonnie's car out in the driveway?"
He turned around and didn't need an answer after that.
Bonnie:"I have to get back. I'll see you guys later okay."
Elena:"Thanks Bonnie."
I hugged her once more before she left. I closed the front door after Bonnie and turned to see Stefan. His green eyes scanning my face, and locking onto my brown ones that are now red, puffy, and filled with tears. He steps closer to me, and I meet him half way. His arms wrap around me tightly holding me close to his chest.
Stefan:"What's wrong?"
As soon as I heard his words I cried harder into his jacket. I couldn't bring myself to tell him the impossible has been declared possible. That I was pregnant with his baby.
