Stefan's POV
We finally got to the delivery room, but Elena's contractions were stronger than before. The nurses quickly got everything prepared and helped make sure Elena was as comfortable as possible in the short time they had. Dr. Fell situated herself in front of Elena and put of her gloves.Dr. Fell:"Okay, Elena it's time to start pushing."
Elena gave her a frantic nod and began to push. She held onto my hand like it was the only thing keeping her sane, or as if it was the only thing holding her down, and in some ways it was.
—A little while later—
Elena's POV
All I could do was groan in pain and take heavy breaths. The pain was unbearable, but it did seem to ease away slightly knowing I had Stefan right next to me supporting me through every second of it.Dr. Fell:"Just one more push, Elena."
Elena:"I can't do it. I can't."
I began to cry from exhaustion and felt Stefan bring one of his hands up to cup the side of my face gently, so I would face him. He leaned forward and kissed my forehead.
Stefan:"Shh, I know, I know your tired and hurts like hell, but just a little more and we'll get to meet our baby okay. You can do this, and I'm right here with you. I believe in you."
I nodded and prepared myself once more.
Elena:"Okay, okay."
He kissed my hand, and I gave one last push. Almost immediately after a small cry filled the room, and it was music to my ears.
Dr. Fell:"Congratulations, you have a beautiful baby girl."
Dr. Fell lifted her up for a small while so that we could see her.
Stefan:"She's perfect."
Elena:"She's beautiful."
She then passed her over to the nurses. I noticed that something was wrong by the look on Stefan's face. He was focusing on his hearing and I could tell by his furrowed brows that there was something wrong. Shortly after I noticed Stefan's reaction, the nurses began to move quickly and huddle around my daughter. I grew worried and panicked.
Elena:"What going on?!"
My voice was very shaky, and you could hear the scared tone that it held. One of the nurses quickly walked over to Dr. Fell and told her something quietly enough, so that I couldn't hear.
Dr. Fell:"Elena, she's having some trouble breathing, so we're going to do everything we can to get her breathing to a normal level. I'm going to stay and get you as comfortable as I can, but Stefan can go with her."
I looked over to Stefan and we both nodded. He leaned down to kiss me and kept his forehead to mine for a couple seconds.
Elena:"Take care of her. Don't leave her side for a second. I love you."
Stefan:"I love you too. You did amazing."
I smiled slightly at his comment and he kissed me once more before he left. Dr. Fell later brought me back up to my room.
Dr. Fell:"You did great Elena. She'll be fine, but you need to get as much rest as you can."
Elena:"I can't sleep. Not until I know she's okay."
Dr. Fell:"I know that it's hard not knowing. I'll be in to keep you updated on her, okay? Just promise me you'll try to sleep."
Elena:"I'll try. Thank you."
Dr. Fell:"If you'd like, I could update your family."
I gave her a small nod and smile, and she left the room. A couple minutes later everyone entered the room with fragile smiles on their faces. I had tears in my eyes and my breathing was quick.
Jenna:"Hey, how are you doing?"
Her voice was soft and almost muffled out. I quickly wiped the tears from my eyes and tried to be as brave as possible for them. I turned and scanned over everyone until I met Jeremy's eyes, and I immediately broke down into tears. He of all people has been through almost everything with me, and he understands how hard it is for me to know that there is even a possibility that I could lose my daughter. He brought me into his embrace, and I felt everyone place a hand on my legs.
Alaric:"She's your daughter, she's going to be fine because if she's anything like her mom and dad she is incredibly strong."
I slowly backed away Jeremy's chest and smiled slightly at his comment.
Tyler:"So where's Stefan?"
Damon:"Yeah where is my brother? I figured he'd be glued to your side."
Elena:"He's with the baby. I told him not to take his eyes off of her for a second."
Matt:"Do you guys have a name picked out?"
Elena:"Not yet, but we have some in mind. If we had a boy we were going to name him Grayson, after my dad, and if we had a girl we were going to use Miranda after my mom. The thing is I kind of want to surprise Stefan and name her Alexia Miranda Salvatore, to honor Lexi and my mom because Lexi was Stefan's best friend and was really important to him. Just like my mom was to me."
Bonnie:"That's a beautiful name and Stefan will love it."
Caroline:"I know I do."
We all laughed and talked about everything we had to prepare before we went home.
Stefan's POV
The nurses had stabilized my baby girl's breathing and had set her up in the NICU to keep a close eye on her. I watched her sleep so peacefully, and for a moment I felt as if I was in heaven. I simply couldn't believe that she was mine and Elena's. She was our daughter.Stefan:"You are so perfect, and you don't know it yet but you have the most brave, strong and beautiful mother in the world. I can't wait to be able to hold you in my arms."
I quietly whispered to her as if she could hear me, and for a long while I just sat there watching my daughter in awe.
