-5 years later-
Elena's POV
It was almost three in the afternoon and Stefan and I were on our way to pick up Lexi from school. Things had been going great for the past five years; Stefan turned me when Lexi was three. I knew that I wanted to be with my family for eternity, and the love I had for them overpowered every thought I had about turning before. Besides that Alaric and Jenna got married. Bonnie and Damon had been married for only a couple months now. Jeremy was in a four month relationship with a girl named Sarah, but nobody had met her yet. Caroline dated a little though college, but no one stuck. It's was strange because Caroline has always been an amazing person, but no one ever brought up the question because she was always happy and loved being around us, her family. Tyler met a girl in college, Liv, and they now live together here in Mystic Falls. Matt became a cop and got married to a woman named Penny. They moved about a year ago, but still come and visit every once in a while. Lastly there was us. Stefan, Lexi, and I. When Lexi turned five we moved back to the boarding house. We were happy when Damon and Bonnie were okay with us moving back in and not wanting to move out. I half expected them to want their own place, but even with all of us at the boarding house we kept the apartment under mine and Stefan's name. I snapped out of my thoughts and noticed we had pulled up to the school. Stefan and I got out and walked hand in hand to Lexi's classroom. When we walked into the classroom, Lexi dropped what she was doing and ran over to us.Lexi:"Mommy! Daddy!"
Stefan:"Hey there princess."
She giggles as Stefan picks her up and showers her with tickles. Once her laughs somewhat calm down, Stefan passes her over to me. I move her hair away from her eyes and behind her ear.
Elena:"How was your day?"
Lexi:"So much fun!!"
Elena:"I bet it was."
I gently tap her nose with my index finger and she giggles. I feel Stefan place his hand on the small of my back, and I turn to smile at him. He returns that smile and we turn our attention back to Lexi who's playing with my necklace. A few seconds later we're brought out of our small little world as we hear the voice of Lexi's teacher.
Mrs. Hill:"Mr. And Mrs. Salvatore could I have a word?"
Elena:"Of course."
I was confused. Lexi was a very good kid, so I wasn't expecting for Stefan and I to have a talk with her teacher. I placed Lexi down on her feet and squatted down so that I was at eye level with her.
Elena:"Hey sweetie why don't you go get your backpack while we talk to Mrs. Hill."
Lexi:"Okay Mommy."
She skipped happily towards her cubby. I got up, and Stefan reached out for my hand and I gladly took it. We followed Mrs. Hill into her office. It was a simple room within the classroom so that she could see the kids from within it.
Mrs. Hill:"I just wanted to speak to you both about Lexi, and her academic standing."
Stefan and I both looked at each other confused. We knew Lexi was a smart girl and that there is no way she could fall behind in school.
Mrs. Hill:"Please forgive me. I don't mean to scare you. You're probably wondering if this conversation consists of her learning troubles, but it's actually the opposite. As you know Lexi is very bright, and kids at her age are learning to write their names, write upper and lower case letters, and read small sentences, but Lexi is very much beyond that. Her learning level is actually two years above her age group. I just wanted to ask if you have considered putting her in a higher grade level?"
I looked over at Stefan who shared the same somewhat confused and uncertain expression that I held. We both turned back around to face Mrs. Hill.
Stefan:"We hadn't spoken about it in depth. I mean we've noticed that for being so young she was at a higher level but-"
Elena:"-We didn't want to pull her from her friends and everything she loves at this point."
Mrs. Hill:"That's absolutely understandable. I just wanted to speak to you both about it, so that you know that we can move her up as long as it's within the next two months."
Stefan and I both gave her a smile.
Stefan and Elena:"Thank you so much."
We shook her hand and walked out to get Lexi. The second she saw us she ran over to us. She walked in between Stefan and I as she held our hands all the way to the car. When we got to the car Lexi handed me her backpack to put in the trunk whilst Stefan helped her into her seat. I waited a small while for Stefan to finish helping Lexi. Once he did he closed the door and turned to me with a warm smile. He noticed my partially worried face and embraced me in his arms. His hand went to the back of my head and stoked my hair in order to comfort me. I sighed and I could feel the vibration of his hum of agreement from the top of my head.
Stefan:"I know."
I loved that he knew exactly what I was thinking all the time. It gave me piece of mind knowing I could always count of Stefan.
Elena:"I don't want to take away from her learning, but she deserves a normal life aside from all the supernatural stuff she's going to have to deal with, and besides she has you. You can teach her so much more than school can."
He and I both laughed lightly before we pulled away and looked at each other. My smile toned down, and a small look of worried curiosity took over.
Elena:"I think we need to talk to her about everything and Bonnie too. Have you noticed what's been going on with her lately? Or is it just me?"
Stefan:"It's not just you I think she might have magic. Bonnie could help her keep it under control, but you're right we should start explaining this to her. Especially since she asked for blood the other day."
Elena:"Wait what?!"
Stefan:"Well not directly. Damon was drinking some in a canteen. She got off the couch where we were sitting and walked over to the chair Damon was in. She said it smelled good and asked him for some, but we distracted her with cookies instead."
I let out a sigh of relief, but soon my emotions kicked in, and tears began to build up in my eyes. Stefan noticed and wiped them from my cheeks with his thumb.
Elena:"I'm afraid it's going to be too much for her."
Stefan:"I know, but she our daughter. She's strong, confident, and independent just like you, so if anything she'll be a rockstar through it all."
I smiled up at him and he pulled me into a gentle kiss before we headed into the car. The anxiety of having to explain everything supernatural related to my six year old daughter built up in the pit of my stomach all the way home. I didn't know what to expect. She was too young too know all of this, but I also never expected for things to start up this early.
