Tapping her finger tips on the wood table, she listens to the chatter of the world around her as she waits.
She doesn't know why she agreed to this.
Blind dates never go the way one wants them too.
Yet here she is on Valentine's Day.
A day that has slowly begun to show her just how lonely she truly is.
Even when she was with Luke- he very rarely planned anything romantic or even fun for the holiday.
Never got her chocolates.
Never gave her flowers.
Never gave her cheese pick up line cards.
Not even an embarrassing over sized stuffy.
"Is this seat taken?" A familiar voice echoes in her ears and she looks up from her disappointed gaze at her half empty water glass.
"W...what are you..." She begins to say and he he cuts her off by sitting down down across from her. His devilishly charming smile grinning at her like the Cheshire Cat. His blue eyes challenging hers- as they always have.
"Well...you've only been sitting here for over half an hour. I assumed by the lack of food at the table that you were waiting for some jerk- who seems to stupidly have stood you up." She blushes out of frustration and crosses her arms.
"Why we're you watching me for a half hour?"
"Because my date had to run out halfway through our dinner."
"She get nauseous upon the sight of you?" She jokes snidely and he rolls his eyes.
"No, Freema. Her father was having a medical emergency." Stilling, she looks away from his stubbled face and casts her eyes downward. "Feeling a bit like an arse now?"
"What even are you doing in New York, Luke?" She changes the subject and he sits back in his seat.
"Mouna wanted to come in from Canada to see the sights under snowfall. I was here on business. Speaking of- how's New Amsterdam going?" He charms, but she doesn't find him as he would like.
"Perfectly splendid. Finished shouting most of our episodes for the last half."
"Well, it's a bloody brilliant show. I tune in to watch it every week on the tele."
"Well we appreciate the support."
'For once.'
She says to herself.
"What's going on with you and the main guy?"
"Our characters are complicated in their personal lives. So it's rather up in the air this season."
"I was asking about real life. What is it....Eggman? Eggleston?"
"Eggold. Ryan Eggold. And we are just friends."
"Very touchy feely friends." He jealously snarls.
"I like to think I'm touchy feely with all my friends."
"But not in the sense that you linger." She goes quiet and just looks at him with a straight puzzle face. "What are you doing Freema? Chasing after a younger man? A good looking- charmingly handsome- one at that. Don't you think he's out of your league? Little boyish? Honestly Babe- it's a bit embarrassing and cliche for the older woman of a sitcom to fall for the younger star."
