Hours passed the sound of a clock ticked on as the group waited for the two men's return.

Willow continued to check on the boy each time coming back with bad news. She needed to operate on him but Rick begged her to wait just a moment longer.

She felt that they were putting too much faith in the two men.

Willow leaned against the kitchen counter with a cup of steaming hot coffee in her hands. She missed coffee.

She hummed, taking in the scent of hazelnut and vanilla. It was calming. She almost forgot about the horrors that laid beyond the farm.

"I don't think we can wait." Hershal said as he stepped into the kitchen. "No. I know we can't wait." The old man stared hard at the girl.

Hershal reminded Willow of her grandfather who was a quiet man with a hard star but you give him a cup of coffee and a chocolate chip cookie and you'd have a man full of stories from his childhood and crazy days. Willow loved her grandfather but sadly he was taken from her just like everyone else eventually.

"I know." Willow nodded, setting the cup of coffee onto the marble countertop. "Rick wants to wait...I can't operate without his or Lori's consent."

Hershal shook his head taking a few steps closer to the girl, his voice a whisper as he spoke. "You know better than I do that if we wait much longer he won't have a chance."

She knew the risks and she knew them very well. "I'll talk to them. Make them understand." She sighed rubbing at her temple. Her migraine was coming back. "I'll talk to them...gather up what you can then we'll start." Willow said as he pushed off the counter.

"Let's hope that they come back soon." Hershal said as he watched her walk out of the kitchen.

Hope was a dangerous thing.

Willow sat in the small living room with Rick and Lori. The couple sat opposite of her. "We can't wait any longer." She glanced towards Hershal, the old man nodding his head for her to continue. "He won't make it if we wait much longer..and we can't wait all night for their return."

Willow knew what she had to do so she moved to the edge of her seat and set up straighter trying to seem intimidating. "I won't ask you for your permission. The world is different now. I don't have to wait for you to sign waivers or sign for me to do a procedure on your son." Her eyes moved between the two trying to pick up their moods. "I'm going to operate on him. We won't wait and if I have to I will lock you both out of the room till it's over."

Rick's jaw began to clench as he listened to the girl's speech. "Either I operate now or he dies." She rose to her feet. "And I won't let him die."

Willow walked out of the small living room with Rick and Lori hot on her trails. "Hershal, get me everything you have." She barked orders left and right. "Maggie and Patricia I need you to get me towels and a knife or scalpel if you have any."

Rick reached out grabbing her arm roughly to pull her to a stop. "What're you doing? They'll be back then you can save him properly." His light blue eyes had hardened now.

"You may have faith or hope in them but I don't. I know that he has a fifty percent chance of making it this way." Willow pulled her arm away staring hard into the man's eyes. "If we wait any longer that percentage decreases now I won't risk that will you?"

The couple were quiet as they watched the girl move around.

Willow removed the blankets from his body then removed the pillow from underneath his head. "Scalpel." She demanded, holding out her hand. A small cool metal tool was placed into her hand.
