Aster wiped the sweat from her brow and sighed. "amelia  jesus christ if you were gonna be this slow you should've just stayed with willow."

Amelia was bent over her hands on her knees. "I needed to get out of the cabin i was going fucking crazy."

Aster rolled her eyes. "Come on. We got like another four miles till we're back at the truck."

"I think i'm going to be sick." amelia panted, wiping the drool from her mouth.

"If you are sick, please be sick somewhere else." Aster grimaced. "Somewhere where I can't hear or smell it."

"Gee aster what a bag of encouragement you are." amelia huffed, pushed herself up and dragging her heavy legs forward.

"Always happy to help."

The two girls made their way to the dirty red pickup truck that they had hid at the bottom of the highway. They had covered it in debris to hide the fact that it was still in good enough condition to be driven.

They tossed their backpacks into the backseat before climbing in and beginning their journey to the cabin.

"God, I can't wait to get out of these clothes and shower." amelia examined her dirt cladded nails in disgust.

"I can't wait to see charlie." Aster relaxed in the drivers seat, her grip on the steering wheel loosening at the thought of her baby boy.

"I really admire willow for always going on these runs alone. This was my one and only time." amelia announced. "I'm more housewife material. More sit there and look pretty."

"Jesus how have you survived this long." aster snorted.

"Willow."

"If it wasn't for her we'd all be dead or worse." aster glanced out the drivers side window at a passing walker. It's clothes tattered and blood stained, it's foot dragging against the pavement.

The rest of the drive back to the cabin was quiet. The sky shifted from a bright blue to a warm orange as the Georgia heat died down.

Aster pulled onto the long dirt road that led up to the cabin.

The two were antsy at the thought of being back in the isolated cabin safe and sound where there was running water and the electricity worked.(Willow's dad installed those sun panels that produce electricity from the sun)

"The jeeps gone." Amelia set up straight in her seat as they pulled into the dirt driveway. Tire tracks and the rotting bodies of walkers were the only thing that was there.

Aster quickly put the truck in park and climbed out of the car, the keys still left in the ignition.

She grabbed her wooden baseball bat from the floor of the truck.

"What the hell happened?" Amelia followed aster with a hammer.

"I don't know but whatever happened it doesn't look good." Aster said as she stepped over a walker with its head caved in.

The front door was wide open, the windows broken and more bodies littered the porch.

Aster took a shaky breath as she made her way up the creaking stairs.

She used the tip of the bat to push the door open.

Inside the cabin there was glass and things thrown around. Charlie's high chair was on its side in the kitchen.

"Stay here and keep watch. I'm gonna go check out the rest of the cabin." Aster instructed Amelia.

She held the bat out using it to push open doors and put as much distance between her and whatever lay behind them.

"Well the cabins clear." Aster sighed as she headed back into the kitchen.

Amelia was leaned against the counter, her hammer set beside her and a letter between her fingers.

"What is it?" Aster asked, coming up beside her.

"A letter." Amelia passed the letter to aster. "From Willow."

Aster leaned against the counter beside Amelia, her eyes studying each word that was clearly written in a hurry.

"At least Charlie's safe." Amelia rubbed her face.

"Yea but where?" Aster ran a hand through her hair.

"They couldn't have gotten too far." Amelia reassured her friend. "How about we pack the rest of our things and go out looking for them."

"Yea. You're right, they can't be far." Aster folded the paper and stuffed it in her pocket. "Start in the kitchen."

"Aster...don't stress too much." Amelia wrapped her arms around the smaller ones shoulders. "Willow would never let anything happen to Charlie. He's safe. I know it."

Aster nodded. "Yea. I know."

Amelia gave her friend a big squeeze. "It'll be okay he's with Willow."

Willow poured warm soapy water onto Charlie's fuzzy little head.

It had been a bit since he had a bath and he was starting to smell like spoiled milk.

Charlie slapped the water covering Willow and the floor in soapy bath water.

"You're making a huge mess." Willow wiped the water droplets from her forehead.

The baby continued and Willow let him.

The bathroom was filled with suds and laughter and for a moment it was just Willow and her nephew. For just a moment aster and Amelia were outside the door, chatting about the latest celebrity gossip.

Willow would do one of her many night shifts, doing surgeries and helping out in the emergency room. She'd come home to blue who was laid up on couch waiting for her.

That's what kept her going, the thought of one day being able to call someplace home.

Where Charlie was safe. Where aster and Amelia were back with them, safe.

Is this chapter short? Yes. Are we getting close to the big ending? Yes. Are we excited? I hope so.
I wanted a chapter where we focused more on aster and Amelia since we haven't seen them since the beginning.
