Willow set on the bed staring at a sleeping Charlie. It was dark out. Around two or so.

Willow watched the baby's chest rise and fall. She couldn't help but stare at the baby. She risked her life for him, made sure he was fed and cared for way before taking care of her own needs hell she'd sell her soul to the devil if she had to.

Outside crickets chirped and chittered, singing their mating songs.

She listened to them, her head leaning against the headboard. The only normal thing left in this world were the bugs.

Charlie twitched, turning his head to face Willow. His round cheek pressing into the cool bed sheets .

She brushed his soft cheek with the back of her index finger.

Charlie was innocent and did nothing to deserve this type of world that he was thrusted into.

Willow sighed she needed air. Fresh air.

She gently scooped the baby up and into her arms. She pressed a soft kiss against his forehead before laying him down in the bassinet that was lent to her.

Willow then made her way outside and onto the front porch.

She set down, her back pressed against the railing and her feet stretched out in front of her.

Outside the air smelled of fresh rain that had not yet fallen and of the smoldering fire in the small camp.

Blue trotted around the corner, his tongue hanging from the side of his mouth. Twigs and leaves stuck to his thick fur. He had definitely been somewhere he shouldn't have.

The dog made his way to his person. His nose instantly pressed into her leg, sniffing and licking the sticky skin.

"Hey baby." Willow smiled, her fingers going behind his ears and scratching his sweet spot. Blue leaned his head against her chest, calming down from his little nighttime adventure.

"Where did you get off to huh?" She asked, picking away at the twigs. "Look at my messy boy."

"He um followed me." Daryl interrupted from the bottom of the stairs.

Willow looked up. In the dark stood tall and lean was Daryl Dixon, his crossbow by his side.

"Told em to get back." Daryl scratched the side of his head. "He don't listen well."

"He does listen very well." She smiled at her baby. "But only to me."

Daryl shifted uncomfortably from his spot at the bottom of the stairs

Willow tapped the spot next to her. "Sit."

Daryl glanced at the spot beside her then towards his sleeping area. He was tired and his body ached but he couldn't say no. it seemed that the more time they spent together the harder it was to say no.

Daryl leaned his crossbow against the railing and set beside willow.

"Before things went to hell.." willow began, gazing up at the stars. "I wanted to start my own teaching hospital. I was one of the youngest surgeons in my program. I went from intern to resident to chief resident in less than two years." she smiled, surgeries flashing through her head as she spoke. "The hospital was my home. I felt more at home in a hospital than i did anywhere else."

Daryl listened quietly as she spoke.

"This might sound horrible but when carl's accident happened i was actually really happy."

Daryl turned to her, his brows knitted together as he studied the side of her face.

"I was happy that i finally had something to do. That i could finally do the job that i worked so hard in. it sounds horrible but i was so happy."

Daryl studied her features as she spoke, the way her eyes lit up at the thought of surgery was the same way his did when he was out in the woods or messing with his bike.

"Does that make me a bad person?" willow asked, turning to face daryl.

The man thought for a moment, weighing his options. In a way it was fucked but daryl understood. When the world ended he was happy hell he had watched some of the people he couldn't stand get torn to shreds and a small part of him wished that he had a bucket of popcorn to enjoy while he watched it go down.

"Nah i've heard worse."

Willow turned back to the sky. "I guess i could talk to rick about teaching some basic medical procedures in case of a emergency."

Daryl knew what she was referring to. He had known since the moment they saw each other on the highway. Once her friends were found she'd be gone.

"He'd go for it." daryl nodded, he thought it was a good idea but he'd never tell her that.

"I'll have to see about checking out a library for medical books then. I think there was one in town." willow rubbed at her face.

"I'll go with ya. Need a few things from town anyways." daryl offered but in all honesty he didn't need anything.

"Oh god" willow shook her head. "The last time me and you went on a run together we got stuck in that building till morning with a herd of walkers outside."

"It won't that bad."

"Once we were settled no it wasn't...haven't been touched like that in awhile" She sighed contently, a soft pink hue creeping up her cheeks.

Daryl turned to her, he could only see the outline of her features in the dark but good god she took his breath away.

"I should head back inside." Willow turned to Daryl. She stood up, brushing the back of her pants. "Daryl.." she began her back facing him. "Thank you for yesterday."

He was quiet, letting her finish.

"I'm not normally like that."

Daryl began to stand.

"But I'm glad it was you who was with me."

He reached for her but she was already inside by the time he made his way up the stairs.

Daryl sighed. "Welcome." He made his way back to his bike.

He could see Willow's room from his little camping spot.

He watched as her shadowed figure walked around the room. He watched as she picked up Charlie and rocked him back to sleep. Her body swaying from side to side, her hand stroking his back.

Daryl watched Willow move around the room with the baby almost like a dance.

he watched until the light in the room had turned off and the curtains were shut.

Daryl leaned against the large body of a tree with blue by his side.

Willow was driving him insane but god he wanted more.
