Willow set in the chair by Carl's bed with Charlie on her lap. She was slowly bouncing her leg up and down trying to keep the boy calm.
In the bed Carl stirred the little boy slowly peeling his eyes open. "Where's dad?" He asked.
Willow leaned forward; her arm wrapped around Charlie's tummy. "He's outside with your mom and Shane." She answered, pressing the back of her hand to his sweaty forehead. "Need me to get him for ya?" She moved her hand to his cheeks.
Carl shook his head. "No, just wondering."
"You feel a little warm. Do you feel bad?" She asked moving the back of her hand back to his forehead.
Carl shook his head. "I feel okay."
"Yea?" Willow tilted her head. "I'm going to pass Charlie off to carol and then I'll come back and check on your incision. Okay?"
Carl nodded, pulling the blanket closer to his chin. "Okay."
She gave the boy a smile, rubbing down his messy hair. "I'll be right back." she whispered, fixing Charlie on her hip. As she slipped out of the bedroom, she heard Carl mumble a soft 'okay' before shutting the door behind her.
Willow made her way outside towards the ragtag group of people, blue finding his way to her side, his warm brown fur brushing her exposed leg.
"How is he?" asked Lori, rising to her feet. She brushed her hands off on her jeans. "Is he awake?"
She nodded. "Yea he's awake and okay. I need to check his wound and change his dressing." she said as she passed Charlie off to carol who set on a large log that one of the guys had found while they were out patrolling. "Needed to grab a few things and give Charlie off. Don't want him seeing any of that right now." she said as she moved towards her blue jeep. She reached inside and pulled out a black leather satchel where she kept rolls of gauze and other medical materials. "Hopefully Glenn and Maggie are able to pick up more supplies. I'm running a bit low."
"What happens if you run out?" Carol asked as she bounced Charlie up and down on her knee.
"Then I'll have to find the closest hospital or clinic. Carl needs new dressing as often as possible." willow pulled out a roll of cloud white gauze and some tape. "And with the way you all are I'm gonna need as much gauze as i can get my hands on." she grinned her tongue peeking out between her teeth in a teasing manner. "Someone in this group always ends up hurt."
"Alright Carl, you can pull the blanket back up." Willow sighed, tossing the dirty gauze into the trash bin. "It looks good. Hopefully it stays that way." she smiled, pulling the latex gloves off her hands. "Tomorrow if you're up for it we'll try taking a walk. Get your strength back up. How does that sound?" she asked as she cleaned up her small station.
"Sound good?." he nodded as he adjusted his position in the bed. "Get you some rest then we'll try eating something before taking your antibiotics. It's better taking them on a full stomach." she said, making her way to the door. "I'll come back and check on you. Try to get some sleep." She offered the boy a soft smile as she pulled open the old bedroom door, the hinges creaking as if they were begging for grease. She slipped out, closing the door behind her quietly.
In the hallway she almost ran into Herschel, a small old leather bible tucked underneath his arm. "How's the boy?" he asked, pulling the round wire reading glasses down to get a better view of her.
"He's doing better. No infection so far." she nodded, crossing her arms over her chest. "When he wakes up from his nap, we're gonna try to get some food in him for his antibiotics later and hopefully by the end of the week he'll be able to go outside."
