"Just say no to her when she calls"

"Why don't you stop her from doing so?" I asked Ed as he called to tell me to decline the offer for the housewarming party that Ester is hosting.

"She...I did" he said defensively. "I did but then she asked why I am not comfortable inviting you....do I still have a thing for you she teased...so I backed off to not arouse suspicion." 
 "But you can cancel straight." He added immediately and his shrugging tone poked me.

"Edward!" I boasted "You don't have to act like I'm a ticking bomb. I said those things because I was mad at you and your discourtesy didn't help either. But you made your choice very clear and I don't run after something that doesn't belong to me."

I could feel his mouth set in a hard line on the other side of the phone as he processed the seriousness of my words.

"I...I believe you. You wouldn't do something like that. It's just"

"You are happy with her and can't risk losing her" I completed.

He sighed a breath.

"I screwed up....big time.... dragged you into this and acted like it is your fault...when it isn't. It's all my fault.I am sorry"

"Hmmm" "Now let me right your wrong. I'll cancel when she calls." He fell silent. I was about to end the call.

"Actually...Ester can be a little persistent. As we've kept everything in the past...an hour won't do any harm."

Don't do this Ed. don't be easy on me and try to be my friend. We can't be just friends. I can't be just YOUR FRIEND.

As Ed warned Ester was a little persistent. She was amiable as she requested me to come. As I've already decided to walk out of his life and end the 'Ed chapter', I saw this as a chance to see him last time and say my goodbye.

I rang the bell and Ed opened the door. He was evidently hesitant thinking either to act welcoming or not.

"Don't worry Ed, act for a couple of hours, and I'll not bother you ever again with my presence" I forced a smile and his eyes flinched at my taunt.

"It's not..."

"Hey Hazel" Ester joined in interrupting him.
 "Glad you could make it"
