"You've never heard of Salem? Not that I'm surprised, but it's the biggest city in Oregon," Lola said, full of disdain. She then went on a long rant about how wonderful the city was and the privileges of being the mayor's daughter.

"That's nice and all," Dan cut her off, devoid of the politeness he had shown earlier, "but do you know anything useful, like oh, I don't know, how to get there?" This time Sally had no problems with Dan being rude.

"Of course," Lola replied huffily, "I know everything about Oregon." Kevin and Carl, who had been quite and uninvolved until now rolled their eyes at Lola's ridiculous statement.

"Oh really," Alyssa replied skeptically, "then what's that?" She pointed at the artifact Tyler had given her. It was a cloth rectangle with a design of stripes with stars in the top corner.

"That's easy, it's called a slab-cover. You put on the table when you eat." Lola then proceeded to tear it off the wall where Alyssa hung it earlier. "Be careful!" Alyssa snapped.

"Actually I'm pretty sure that's not what it is," Kevin replied quietly. "He's right," Carl confirmed. Everyone turned to see Carl and Kevin looking at two pieces of metal forming a 90 degree angle.

"What is that?" Dan said in awe, ecstatic just thinking about the idea of a device with such information. "If you would let them finish they might tell you," Sally scolded. "Sorry" Dan muttered in reply.

"No problem," Kevin said. "It's called a laptop," Carl finished, "and there is so much more it can do."
