allie

my fist tapped the raggedy looking wooden door a few times. the paint was starting to peel off and there was holes in the screen over the window. i didn't see a doorbell anywhere, scanning the entirety of the door frame. i didn't really want to knock again, i didn't want to bother them or make them think i was some sort of threat. what if they pulled a gun or knife on me? i know brayden said they wouldn't but there's no guarantee.

another minute had passed, still no answer or any sign of life from within the house at that. i reached into my pocket, grabbing my phone but hesitating to pull it out. i could text brayden, but whatever he was up to seemed important to him and i didn't want to bother him. i also didn't really want to die tonight.

i was probably just being ridiculous. i slowly lifted my fist back to the door, hitting it a few more times with a bit more force. "i'm coming man. give me a fucking minute" i heard a guy yell from the inside, sounding rather irritated. he knew i was here the whole time, and was expecting me? how long does it take to answer the door, jesus.

the door suddenly swung open, "hey bro— where the fuck is brayden? who are you?" the guy asked me. "i uh—he had something come up and sent me?" i said, trying not to let my voice tremble. "i don't know if i believe that. plus you never told me who the fuck you are" he said, taking a step towards me.

he lifted the hem of his shirt slightly, just enough to reveal he also had a gun. it felt like he was trying to show me he didn't want any bullshit, and he meant business. everything about this guy screamed don't fuck with me. the couple inches of skin i saw from the lift of his shirt revealed a littering of random tattoos.

i froze like a deer in the headlights, it felt like my eyes had grown to the size of the moon. i stumbled back a few steps from him, afraid of what he was about to do. "i-i'm his sister. allie. something came up so he asked me to take this to you. he said it would be o-okay. i-i can call him" i offered, reaching for my phone.

"what are you trying to reach for" the guy snarled at me, grabbing my arm to stop me. i blinked rapidly, trying to hold back tears from fear. i staggered backwards a few more steps, shaking my arm free of his grip. "m-my phone" i said, my voice cracking as a single tear escaped my eye. "you got a gun on you? weapon?" he asked, easing up on the tough act. "yeah" i nodded, beginning to cry more. i kept my hands at my sides, careful not to make him think i was reaching for anything.

"okay, okay, can you hand it over to me? so neither of us get hurt?" he asked, reaching his hand out in front of me.  "okay" i told him, reaching slowly back for the gun. "that's it" he said, taking it from me and setting it down beside him. "give brayden a call okay? just to make sure this all checks out. let me talk to him" he told. gesturing towards my pocket my phone was in.

i dialled his number, putting the call on speaker. the call rang a few times before he picked up. "allie? are you okay?" he asked. "y-yeah i'm fine" i stammered. "brayden" the guy, who's name i still didn't know said. "i got this girl on my porch. said she's your sister. you're up to something tonight?" he filled him in. "yeah yeah. i got some shit to move so i sent her. you didn't do anything to her did you?" brayden asked, letting his protective side out.

"no man. she's fine, just scared as shit. just wanted to make sure everything checked out. maybe don't send your little sis on drug runs next time man? you even a good brother?" he asked brayden. i wanted to speak up at that moment, but knew it was best to stay quiet. "better shut up now or you'll regret it next time i see you. don't fucking touch her leave her right the fuck alone gus" brayden warned.

so his name was gus, i'm guessing. "yeah man. she'll be out of here any minute. see ya" gus said, pressing the hang up button on my phone screen. "always forget buddy has a sister" gus said, shaking his head. "sorry, uh, amy? didn't mean to scare you, this way of life just doesn't always run the smoothest" he told me.

"it's allie. um, here" i said, handing him the bags from my pocket. i was still a trembling, anxious mess trying to choke back my tears as he took them from my hand, switching the bags for cash. "tell your brother to keep you out of his business. it's dangerous out here" gus told me. "he said you wouldn't be any risk to me" i told him, reiterating what bray had told me, which seemed to prove untrue.

"well if he woulda warned me he was sending you there'd be no issue. he should have known better" gus said to me, but was staring off into the space behind me in the meantime. "he's a good brother. he probably just forgot" i said, standing up for him a little. i didn't know how this was supposed to work.

"you okay? you can relax now. he was right, i'm not gonna hurt you" gus said, reaching out and putting his hand on my shoulder. his hand was covered in various tattoos as well, a large rose being the most noticeable. my attention was suddenly drawn to a crimson stain on the end of his sleeve that has just come to my attention.

"is that blood?" i asked. "no?" he responded with shaky uncertainty. "that's not really a question you answer with another question" i told him. "okay, well yes, but it's nothing. some idiot was giving my buddy a hard time do i beat the piss outta him. he deserved it" he explained. my face fell a little bit, my heart rate picking up slightly.

"hey, don't look scared. i promise i won't hurt you" he said to me, taking his bloody hand off of me. "i should uh-probably go now, everything's done right?" i asked. "yeah it's done. do you want to come sit down for a bit? you should. it's really not good to drive when you're so worked up" he told me. "no, i should just go" i insisted.

"allie nothing bad is going to happen to you, you're safe. your brother would have my head on a stake if anything happened to you here i know that for a fact. just come sit on the couch for a few minutes until you stop crying, you can go right after that" he told me, opening the door back into the house, offering me room to walk by him.

"okay, fine. just a few minutes" i gave him. i guess i could trust brayden a little here. he said nothing would happen to me. "okay thank you. he'd also have my head on a stake if you crashed the car from crying after you left here so i'm protecting both of our asses right now" he informed me.
