CONNIE'S POV
Nanaba glanced over at me, "Utgard Castle.""Castle? Like with knights and princesses and things?" I asked, tilting my head ever so slightly. My brain filled with random scenarios, all wacky and dumb.
"No. There's none of that here. It's just a checkpoint." Nanaba was clearly unamused by my jokes, "We're staying here. You rookies stay down here. The rest of us will go up and be lookout. Even though we're looking out, be on your guard at all times." Nanaba started walking up the stairs, the others trotting behind her.
"T- There has to be some way to contact more soldiers. Maybe just one or two even." Krista shouted, looking up at the older Scouts, "I'm sure if you get Rayvon here, he'll help a lot!" She beamed with hope, the others just stared at her.
"Rayvon? Are you talking about Rouge? I've heard of him. He got a special report from the Captain and the Commander themselves. It's looking like he'll be the Captain of his own squad soon." Nanaba said, the others walking past her and going up to the roof.
A thought popped into my head, "Wait, do you know me? The great Connie Springer!" I boasted, earning a head slap from Ymir, "Ow."
"I've only ever heard of Rayvon Rouge and the person he asked to be his protégé, Elias Weber." Nanaba informed us, her expression calm and collected. She was serious.
"You're not joking?! Rayvon is a mentor to Elias?! There's no way! It should be me!" I shouted in complete disbelief.
"Well, he made his choice. Even though he is a newer Scout, he's experienced. I have to get to the others. Sleep or don't. Just don't be reckless." Nanaba sighed and walked up the stairs, leaving our sight. The tension in the room released itself and the air started to feel a bit cooler.
"Finally. She's so serious sometimes." Ymir sighed and sat down against the wall, adjusting to a more comfortable position.
"You said it." I sat down across from her, the coldness of the wall stinging my back a bit, "How can it be hot and freezing at the same time?"
"You should sleep Connie. You weren't acting like yourself earlier. You sounded like a lunatic." Reiner said, his arms crossed and a concerned expression on his face.
"I'm not dumb! I know it's her! It has to be!" I stood up and shouted, but he and Bertolt didn't believe me.
"What was it anyway?" Ymir perked.
I looked off to the side, mumbling just loud enough for her to hear, "That my mom is a Titan."
Ymir paused, staring at me, "You're kidding!" She laughed and held her stomach from laughing so hard. She just laughed and laughed, like it was some kind of joke to her, "That might explain why you're so ugly!"
"Hey, knock it off! I'll beat you into a pulp!" I stepped towards her, attempting to threaten her, but she was unfazed.
"Beat me? More like you'll eat me, Titan boy!" She continued to laugh until Krista hit her on the head.
"That's not nice, Ymir! Don't be mean to Connie!" She said, acting like a mother towards. Breaking up fights, helping others, it's something mom used to always do with me and my siblings.
"Whatever. You have to stop acting so nice." Ymir said, annoyed. She got up and looked back at me, "Don't worry. I'm sure you'll go back to your mom soon. She'll definitely miss her little Titan boy." Ymir smirked, opening a door and going into what looked like a storage room.
"A- Asshole." I rubbed my head and laid down, trying to clear my mind of the situation.
"I'll check on her." Reiner got up and followed Ymir.
