"Friendship is the finest balm for the pangs of despised love."-Jane Austen
The next day, Dylan was called to the hospital. Regina on the other hand, was called in by her publicist. Maddison had gone with her as well; to provide her with emotional support.
After the meeting, Maddison looked at her friend filled with hope. However, Regina wasn't really feeling that hope. "What is it? What did they tell you?"
Regina sighed, " I have a month to come up with a new script, preferably a romance."
Maddison bit her lip nervously, " How about--you just give them a thriller with a hint of romance. For example, a rogue's wife is killed and he is ready to seek revenge. You know, something like that?"
Regina shook her head, "That's not very romantic, it's mostly sad."
Maddison sighed. They ended up heading out to eat, Dylan had called and had invited them both to grab a bite near the hospital. The girls had agreed. While they ate, Regina thought back on the meeting. She had been thinking hard about what she would do, so much so, that she didn't talk through most of lunch.
"What's wrong with her?" Dylan asked Maddison.
"She's got to propose a new script, but it's got to be a romance piece or they drop her."
"Romance?" Dylan asked before taking a bite of his chicken. Maddison nodded her eyes landing on Regina, who was still lost in thought.
"Do you think that PQ productions is looking for new screenwriters, I think I'm really going to have to change companies." She finally said. Maddison shook her head, "Sorry hon, PQ recently got Roq Sint, the really famous web novelist."
"Roq Sint?" Dylan asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Pen name." Maddison clarified.
Regina sighed. Dylan noticed how stressed Regina looked and began to join the girls in their brainstorming.
"How about a medical inspired romance?" He said.
Maddison smiled looking at Regina, " Yes, that sounds good, doesn't it Gi?"
Regina shrugged, " I don't know. I mean, I've never really written a medical inspired script. What would it be about?"
"Well, how about a handsome doctor who falls in love with one of the nurses, but the nurse is the daughter of the director and he doesn't approve of the relationship?"
Maddison frowned, "Yeah, I'm not sure people would watch that. It sounds pretty cliche."
Regina nodded.
"Uff, I got one. How about this, a young hospital director falls in love with a nurse, but she's a lowly nurse and decides to give up his status in order to live with her and then they begin to hate each other and she kills him--" Maddison said chuckling at her own crazy idea.
Regina shook her head, " Yeah, that sounds like a psychopath inspired script."
The small group laughed, and continued throwing out ideas, most of them quite absurd.
Eventually, the group left the restaurant without being able to provide Regina with any help. Dylan headed back to the hospital, while Maddison received a call from the office and had to head out leaving Regina on her own.
She went back home, and decided to do some laundry. After doing laundry, she searched for things to clean but found very few. Dylan often came home from the hospital and cleaned up before going to sleep, so it was hard to find anything dirty in the house. That morning, he had also cleaned up the kitchen before they had left.
"Everything is so clean," she muttered as she closed the bathroom right by the living room. She ended up walking to the living room. Her laptop was sitting on the coffee table along with the script she had written the night before. She knew that the story wouldn't get done on its own; she had to begin writing, but she couldn't.
She looked at the laptop for a few minutes. Eventually, she opened a tab and began to look over her past works. She read the comments. Some people were praising her, while there were others who thought the work was mediocre and 'didn't have enough action'.
-Come on this is like children's play! Who even wrote this script?
She frowned and closed the laptop. In the past, she had been afraid to fail. Her success had always been questioned by others, especially given that she was a female screenwriter, who was writing thrillers and action scripts. She had never bothered to write something romantic or comedic. It had always scared her. It had been so much easier to write a piece on a vengeful individual, seeking their own justice, than it was to write about feelings and love.
After a few hours, she had decided to go over her past works. She watched her first work, Fury Kings, a story about a set of robbers who end up working on a missing person case. The series had been a success, and she had also won her first award with it. After it's success, she had decided to stick to darker genres.
"What are you watching?" A voice caught her attention, and she turned towards it.
"Hi," she said, "I didn't hear you coming in."
Dylan nodded. "It's raining outside," he said, pointing to the window before he took off his suit. There were drops of water that fell from his head and into his dry dress-shirt, but Dylan didn't seem to mind. He sat down beside her and looked at the TV.
"It's my first work. I was twenty-one when it came out."
"That's cool," he said as he looked at the TV.
Regina nodded. "Wait, is that Jack Rogers?" He said, he moved closer to the TV with a smile.
"You had Jack Rogers in your series?!"
Regina nodded. "Yes, he really liked the script."
"I've watched almost all of his movies; I never had time to watch a whole series though. But my friend Peter, he often told me about them." he said, looking at her with a smile.
Regina smiled. There was something about the way Dylan looked at her, that made everything suddenly disappear, even the worries of the future.
