(Contains Black Clover spoilers ofc)
Okay.
So here's what I think.
He's not romantically in love with Marie.
He has nosebleeds when he sees her and thinks of her, yes.
But there's something Gordon said in an episode that really shed light on this matter.
When Asta's arms were cursed, and Gauche and Gordon were doing research in the royal library...I don't know what episode specifically, maybe around the 50's?...anyway, they were in the library and Gauche had a nosebleed when he was talking about healing Asta, and Gordon observes that Gauche has nosebleeds whenever he "thinks too hard about the happiness of those he cares for deeply." (That's not a direct quote but it should be a pretty close paraphrase.)
On this note, Gauche also has a nosebleed when he sees that Asta is healed up. He claims it's because he's "so damn angry" but it was really because he was so glad that Asta was okay. This not only disproves the idea of Gauche being in love with Marie, but it also shows how much he cares for Asta despite what he wants everyone to believe. He views Asta as family, even though he acts hostile towards him.
I find this idea really nice.
Additionally, his time spent imprisoned could be a major catalyst for his obsession with his sister. I think that once he got out of prison, he felt the need to make up for lost time and be with Marie as much as possible. He gives her everything she wants and more all in an effort to ensure her happiness and safety. After spending time away from her he tries desperately to compensate and he just wants to take care of her in any way he can.
At any rate, I very much like Gauche. I like those acts-like-they-don't-give-a-shit-but-would-actually-give-their-life-for-you characters. I like pretty boys with hair in their eyes. I like fiercely protective types. And that's Gauche.
So say what you will, but I like him and I admire his dedication to taking care of his sister and his team.
