Special Chapter 2 – Back On Therapy
I stood in front of a brown door down the hallway. I don't know why it came to my senses that I have to be here. There's just a lot of things going on in my head. Pumasok talaga sa isipan ko na pumunta ako ngayon dito kahit wala naman talaga sa plano ko. I just thought and now I'm here.
I knock on the door a few times until someone inside the room called me to wait then a moment, it was opened and I saw my former therapist slightly shocked to see me in her newly-owned office.
"Kai?" banggit nito sa pangalan. She even holds me on my shoulder to check if I'm actually here and she covered her mouth realizing na nandito nga ako sa office niya. "You're here?! What are you doing here?"
"Uh... I think you know it, Miss Sandra."
"I see..." aniya. "Come on, get inside," pag-imbita pa nito sa akin.
She directed me to sit on the wing couch in front of a throne chair. May kinuha lang siyang notebook at pen sa kanyang table at saka siya umupo sa upuan kaharap ko.
"I'm not expecting you to be here today, Kai. How are you?"
"I'm actually feeling great! I also didn't expect to be here today, just I thought I needed to talk to you... I guess that's all."
"Well, if you're looking for someone who you wanted to talk with, nandito naman ako." I think she's very happy and pleased to see me in her office today. Actually, this is my first time to be in her office. "Good thing, alam mo ang papunta rito."
"I asked a few people, Miss Sanda. You made this room looked so comfortable, huh?" I muttered, looking around. "This doesn't feel like constraining or anything. This doesn't give the vibe that you'll eat us at the end of this session, but somehow a kind of warmth that vulnerable people felt at ease."
"That's such a nice thing to say, Kai..." She smiled, seems like teary eyed. "I'm so happy to see you today. Hindi ko inaasahan talaga 'to. It's been a year or so na ata tayong hindi nagkikita and the last session we had was before all of this—look at you now, mamang-mama ka na with the growing beard on your face."
Natawa ako sa sinabi ni Miss Sandra. "Well, daddy duties sometimes get difficult, but I got to double up my patience and strength."
"So, how's your wife? Mackenzie? How is she doing these days?"
"Oh, yeah, she's feeling and doing great! It seems like she forgets about being bald—losing her hair is one of the hardest challenges she had to thrive. She's still fighting for it, but I know she's stronger than ever. She's a fighter, I know that."
"I believe that, Kai. I've met Mackenzie a lot of times and I can say that she's one of a kind. When I've heard that both of you will be having your first child, I was so happy! I know we've never talked about that part of your life before, so how does it feel now?"
