Chapter 7
Millarca texted me to meet her downstairs. She told me that there was something she had for me. I just woke up from my nap after an exhausting conversation with my parents. With all their reasons to limit myself to enjoy a normal life and they were difficult to be persuaded. It is not what they think I'll be able to have. Just because I'm deaf, my actions will be limited. No, my life doesn't stop just because I have hearing defects. And as much as I want to eliminate any hindrances that came in my life, hindi naman mawawala 'yon. I just need to cope with it and move forward.
That's the easy way, but they think it'll be hard for me.
They would always define me kahit hindi pa nakikita ang resulta.
"Kai!" I heard my sister calling my name again. The device on my ear is enough for communication. I understood them and people somehow understand me, too.
They chose to put it in our house instead of donating it to some organization or putting it on some of The Foyers building. It has the same name as the artist. CLouise F. I wonder what was the girl's inspiration for making these kinds of baffle paintings?
Nang mapansin nila ang presensya ko at nang makalapit ako sa kanila, they offered me what they were eating. It is a tub of yogurt. It is the one Mackenzie brought for me.
"Where did you get that?" I spoke and they both looked at me.
"You're speaking clearly now, Kai." Millarca was a little surprised by it but I didn't show any reaction to satisfy her. "Wow... I mean, that's great! Is this one of Miss Sandra's sessions that made you speak?"
I shrugged, "Maybe..."
"That's a great improvement from you, Kai," Weston commented. I looked at him but immediately shifted my attention back to my sister. I kept remembering what he was talking about a few weeks ago and my sister still couldn't believe it.
Gold digger.
"Well, Weston's right, too. That's a great improvement. What made you decide to speak? Alam ko namang nakakapagsalita ka talaga, but you try not to and just go with sign languages. I'm just curious... would you like to fill me in?"
"Well..." I muttered, "It's part of trying something new. Something Miss Sandra and I have been working on." I signed.
Weston looked at her confused, "I thought he can speak now? What's with all the hand gestures again?"
