Chapter 9
"Millarca," I called my sister. I saw her sitting alone in the swing back in the garden. She had been like this ever since the day she ended everything with Weston—her ex-husband. She wanted to be alone. She doesn't even want to be around anyone else. She felt like she wasted a lot of time to a person who had the intention of hurting her. She invested too much pero sa iba pala namumuhunan iyong taong mahal niya.
And that's the sad reality of her life. At some point, I hated her for not listening to me. But I also have to understand that I can't sway her mind to think like that. Mahal niya iyong tao, e. Who am I to speak and break them apart?
Nang tuluyan akong makalapit sa kanya ay tinigil niya ang paggalaw sa swing. I sat on the swing next to her. The swings have been here since we were young. Hindi na lang nila inalis dahil marami rin kaming memories ni Millarca rito even my with parents. And I guess, my little cousins who visit the mansion love to go and play here so they didn't move them away.
"I still remember when we were little, Kai..." she started. She's trying to give an accompanying smile, something that would lessen the hurt she's been keeping in her chest. Hindi 'ko man alam kung paano alisin sa kanya 'yon, I just know how to comfort her when she needs it.
I chuckled. "What is it?" I asked.
"Remember our little doggy, Silver, who likes to poop everywhere in the garden?" she asked. I nodded when my mind flashed back to the memories I had when I was, I guess, five years old. Not vivid enough but it stayed in me.
"That sneaky little Welsh Corgi," I spoke with my hands gesturing.
She laughed. "I know. Sobrang hinding-hindi ko makakalimutan 'yong nadapa ka dahil hinahabol ka ng pinsan natin and then you tripped and fell to Silver's poop. Iyak ka nang iyak kasi akala mo habangbuhay nang nakadikit sa 'yo 'yong poop ni Silver and I think that was the purest and funniest memory I had with you."
"And Mom got mad because I had a poop in my hand," I signed. She hysterically laughed. This is what I wanted to see in Millarca and not the other way around. "I just hope Silver was still here. I really love that corgi, too."
"I agree," she sighed. I think that was a bad thing to say but she's pressing a smile on her face. It might still be a good memory. "He was taken from us so soon. I was busy going to school that time and you've been hustling to interact with your private tutor, so playing with Silver compromised your playful hours. It was hard for us back then... We didn't know that Silver was ill. I cried so hard for a week remembering him."
"So it is also the reason why we never had a dog or any pets in here anymore?" I signed.
She shrugged off her shoulder. "Maybe. I don't know. But I do remember that our parents got mad because of it, so they thought we shouldn't get a pet anymore when we couldn't even take care of it. I guess that's just how they think. Wala naman tayong magagawa do'n... but it's already in the past. Silver is in our hearts and minds now."
