Smudged lipstick
Messy hair
The strong scent of Jack Daniels on her breath mixed with a hint of the mint gum she had foolishly chewed in hopes of disguising it.
Constricted pupils
Flushed skin
She seemed euphoric
That's how Veronica found her twin when she came back home.
And their movie night was cut short by the older twin having a hot date with the toilet as she threw up her guts while Veronica held her hair back while massaging her back soothingly.
"I feel empty" Reina mumbled as she rinsed her mouth with the cold water, wincing slightly as the low temperature attacked her teeth.
Dark rings were already forming under her eyes and she seemed to have aged years in a matter of hours, her dark eyes frowned at the person that looked back at herself in the mirror, quickly looking down as she left the bathroom while messily throwing herself on the bed.
"Two hours of throwing up does that to a person" Veronica muttered back sassily, placing a hand on her hip as she looked at her twin, waiting for an explanation.
Her eyes, as dark as Reina's, had one day been identical, until the older got involved with drugs and they started to change, one day she would return with dilated pupils, the other? Constricted and redness on her cornea, but those weren't what worried her the most.
No... they looked dead, no spark of light behind those onyx orbs.
"What happened?" Reina had her eyes closed when she heard the question and she thanked the heavens for that, wondering if she could only fake she was already asleep by exhaustion or what she should say.
After a long period of silence, Veronica sighed, going back to the bathroom as she took a clean cloth and wet in water, twisting it to get rid of the excess before she returned to the place her twin stood and gently placed the cold towel on her forehead, softly caressing her dark locks.
She went to leave her alone, when a hand caught her wrist, looking down in shock at her twin, only to see those dark dangerous eyes looking back at her with such an intensity she had only seen few times before, making her sit back on the bed.
"Promise me you'll never try it" Reina whispered, not looking away of the warm eyes that held so much pain as she saw the state of her role model, her big sister, her everything.
No words of explanation were needed after that, both of them knew what it was referring to.
Veronica nodded quickly, intertwining her fingers through Reina's, before she laid on the bed with her, hugging her big sister.
"What happened, Rei?"
"Everything was perfect..." the older Lodge explained softly, wrapping her arms around her smaller twin as she closed her eyes with a small smile.
"Then the sun went down and I had to leave, return to reality before fantasy sounded too perfect and I couldn't come back"
The brunette hummed softly as she opened her eyes slowly, gazing at the moon with a deep emotion hidden on her features.
"And when I came back to reality, I had to feel something again, anything that could bring me out of that numb, apathetic state..."
"So you used it again..." Vee whispered once she noticed her twin wouldn't finish the sentence.
"I did"
"Was it worth it?"
"For a moment it was the best thing in the world and it felt like nothing could change that, but time could... what seemed like an ethereal euphoria was merely minutes of illusions, which soon turned into hours of... melancholy and pain"
"I looked it up, you know?" Veronica mumbled against her shoulder, not daring to look up "the effects don't match with weed, what are you actually using, Rei?"
And with a heavy sigh, Reina muttered the words that broke Veronica's heart for the first time.
"Heroin, cariño"
"Can you promise me something as well?" Humming to show she was listening, Veronica stood quiet for a moment before she finally whispered her plea "Let me help you, please, don't push me away, I'm with you, for better or worse"
"It'll be worse"
"I don't care, I love you, Rei! You're my twin, my soulmate"
"I love you too, cariño... I'll try, okay?"
"'Kay"
And they felt asleep like that, one too exhausted to actually stay up after the previous day and the other mentally worn out because of the new discoveries.
The moon was up
The moon was down
The sun was up once more and the Lodge's twin followed it's movements, much to their demise.
With a heavy amount of make up, coffee and sunglasses, the twins were up and down to the mall, trying dresses after dresses and everything in between as Reina made sure to be there to her twin after all the baggage she had placed upon her shoulders on the other night.
Which included, going with her to the back to school semi formal, although not as her date, much to her surprise, considering that even when Veronica had boyfriends, she would always go with her twin to those kind of things.
"What do you mean I have to get another date?"
"I have a plan, mi alma, and that includes going with a certain pinkett and their orange obsession" Vee explained as her twin helped her put her sleeveless dress.
"I didn't know you're into threesomes, I'm really proud by the way, but seriously those two?" Slapping Reina's arm playfully, the brunette twirled around with a mischievous smile.
"Oh mi alma, we both know I don't share, anyway, who are you going to bring with you?"
The taller twin hummed with a thoughtful smile, looking down at her very see through Versace dress with Bvlgari jewels before she winked at her twin.
"Perhaps a little firecracker will keep me company if I'm luck"
