Every town has one, the spooky house that every kid avoids at all cost. Ours was Thornhill, the Blossom family's mansion, with its very own graveyard.
And, trapped within its walls like some gothic heroine, was Cheryl Blossom. Still grieving for her beloved brother, Jason. Linked in death even as they were in life.
"Thank you for having us" Reina couldn't help but give her twin a look as she continued eating while Veronica played the one with manners.
"Cheryl invited you. I have no idea why you're here" Penelope answered with a fake smile, making the oldest twin clench her fingers tighter around her fork.
"Of course you do, silly! Because Cheryl invited us, you said so yourself" Her onyx eyes challenged the matriarch of the family, sending a fake smile of her own on their way as she felt her twin placing her hand on her leg in a warning.
"Nana Rose, would you like some more ham?" Clifford questioned, keeping an eye on Reina as he tried to lessen the tension, but he gained no response, making Reina smirk as she turned her head to Cheryl.
"I think your nana is my favorite Blossom, after you of course, hermosa" Her words managed a small smile to pull up on the red head's lips.
It was starting to unsettle the twins how quiet their friend was during the time they had been in Thornhill, it wasn't the same Cheryl they knew.
"You do know that Riverdale was founded on the Maple Industry, right?" Clifford questioned the twins, taking their eyes off his daughter as he they looked at him.
"I didn't, actually. Fascinating" Vee answered, making Reina snort "What is fascinating about that?"
"Perhaps you should ask your father about it sometime. How's he by the way?"
Veronica could feel it, the way she had to apply more strength for her twin to not stand from her place, she was sure her hand was white now from trying to hold her down as she glared at the patriarch of the family.
"Still in prison from what I heard" Penelope answered to her husband and Veronica couldn't help but wish for a moment to let her twin do as she pleased.
But they were there for Cheryl, not to cause more drama.
"It must have been hard for you, watching your father been handcuffed and taken in front of you, your neighbors, reporters..." He continued taunting them and Reina felt Veronica's fingers curling on her tight.
"We were too busy to feel something" Vee answered softly, making the Blossoms frown as they waited for her to continue.
"Memorizing the faces of those who were laughing at us so we could pay them back in the future. You know, Clifford, I can call you that since you believe you have intimacy to talk to me and my twin about our family, right? Clifford... when it comes to our family, you either stand on our side or you're on our fucking way" Reina continued Veronica's sentence with the coldness of the Lodge name.
Their eyes identically staring dead into Clifford's until he broke eye contact, too uncomfortable by the intensity of them.
"We advise you to choose wisely" the twins spoke simultaneously, standing up from the chair and looking at Cheryl as they waited for her to leave the dinner table with them.
The ginger couldn't stand faster from the table, taking Reina's hand subconsciously as she started to drag them to her room.
"I hope this isn't weird, but Jason is crazy handsome" Reina choked on her saliva as she heard her twin's comment as they looked over the pictures of Cheryl and Jason.
"The handsomest" The ginger replied with a big smile "something tells me he would've liked you"
"Okay, gross, this is very weird" Reina interrupted the matchmake with a deadman with a frown, making the two giggle "You know, you don't need an eulogy to say goodbye to your twin"
Their giggles died and Cheryl focused on the photo on her hand with a sad smile on her red painted lips as Veronica explained what her twin was thinking "It doesn't have to be in front of everyone..."
"Everything with Jason has been so... public. Everyone has an opinion. Has been gossiping. Saying he got what he deserved or that he didn't. I just... I want everyone to know that I'm... I'm sorry and that Jason deserved a better family than what he got" it was still weird for Cheryl how fragile she allowed herself to be in front of the Lodge twins.
But they never showed any evil intent towards her, not like those she had once called friends, not like those she shared blood with, not like everyone else in that godawful town.
"Oh fuck them, you don't need to explain yourself"
"Then do it. We'll help you!"
The twins spoke at the same time, turning to look at each other with raised eyebrows as if saying 'Really?'
"Come on, mi alma, it'll piss off Penelope and Clifford, can you imagine their faces?"
It was safe to say that Reina was convinced to help...
