Sophie's POV
~
I bend down to the cage and open it up, smiling at the German shepherd puppy sitting there, wagging his tail. I reach in and clip his lead onto his collar before standing up and allowing the dog to bound out.
I chuckle, reaching down to ruffle his fur, "You're feeling better already, huh? Come on, your mom's here to pick you up."
I walk out of the back room and out to the front of the vet clinic with the puppy bounding happily in front of me. A soon as he spots his owner he pulls at the lead, trying to get to her. The woman turns away from my co-worker, Remi who has been helping her pay when she sees us and immediately comes over.
"How's my boy?" She coos at her puppy and I pass her the lead as she looks up at me. "Thank you so much."
"It's not a problem, he was great. Percy's all stitched up now so there's no chance of any pups running around." I tell her with a smile.
"That's great. Thank you again." She smiles as she heads towards the exit. As she leaves, she passes a familiar tall man who is entering. He steps back and allows her through the door before walking in with a golden retriever tugging on his lead in front of him.
Trey's eyes connect with mine the second he walks through the door and a slow smile pulls up his lips as he walks over to me. "Hello again," He greets me with a knowing smile.
I grin, my eyes meeting his, "Hi," My eyes dart down to Red and I crouch down to give him a pat, "How are you, Red? It's good to see you, bud."
"Oh I'm great too, thanks for asking." Trey replies sarcastically and I look to him with a grin.
"I'm sorry, but the cute dog takes priority." I shrug an apology.
"Cute dog takes priority over cute guy? What kind of system is this?"
"A good one, right, Red?" He licks my hand and I laugh, "See, he agrees with me."
"He's sucking up to you because he knows you have treats."
"I should have known." I stand to my feet and look up at Trey properly. "How have his legs been?" It's been a week since Trey came in late at night with an injured Red in his arms. After I put casts on Red's legs, I sent them home and told Trey to bring Red back in a week later. Mostly for me to check on him and to have a co-worker check him over too, but also a little because Trey is fúcking cute and I wanted to see him again.
"He's not been too bad, actually. The casts annoy him a bit, but he doesn't seem to be in any pain with the daily medication." Trey responds, bending down to give Red a scratch behind his ears.
"Great. Well, you can come on in and I'll give him a quick look over." I gesture for them to come through to my examination room. I hold the door open for them and Trey slips past, heading over to the table in the middle of the room. He lifts Red up onto it and I walk over to them, taking a treat out of my pocket to give to Red. He eats it up greedily and I chuckle quietly.
"His casts look pretty okay, he doesn't seem to have bitten or scratched at them, which is good. That tends to be a problem sometimes and then we have to put a cone on. But Red seems to be good." I tell Trey once I've checked over his legs. Then I take a look at his road rash which seems to be heeling well. "I'll just grab Victoria, another vet, to look over the x-rays I did last time. I want to make sure I didn't miss anything."
Trey nods and I leave the room in search of my co-worker, Victoria. I find her at her computer and she looks up at me with a smile. "What's up, Soph?"
