Day 238 of 365
Never let someone tell you how to live your life. That's almost the same as letting them tell you how to cook your own recipe.
I've had people criticize me for my opinions, beliefs, lifestyle and basically things that I considered normal. It's the things that screams who I am as a person. At first I was convinced that I should listen to them and change my ways, but as I grow older, I've come to realize that there's no exact standard to follow.
Don't get me wrong, constructive criticism is a big help for our growth. What I don't like is whenever people try to dictate others.
We need to acknowledge our differences and leave it as it is. Not every topic is debatable.
We meet people that are way different from us and it's not our job to change them. Different is not wrong.
If they don't accept you for who you are, maybe they don't have to stay in your life and constantly make you try to please them.
I know we're not perfect, we need to evaluate ourselves every now and then. But we need to know when to adjust and when to know that there is absolutely no need to do so.
Everyone's opinion matters, but it should never overshadow your opinion about yourself.
It may sound selfish, however, it should always be you before anyone else. Listen to yourself, not the external noise of the world.
We only live once, it would be nice if you get to spend it the way you want.
You are the main character of your own story and you are in control. Always.
