242/365
Day 242 of 365
When we hear the word "progress", we often visualize it as something that's constant. Like a person going up the stairs or someone climbing up a ladder. Going upward and only upward.
Now that I think of it, progress in reality is nowhere near what I envision.
Progress is like a bumpy ride on a muddy road. You sometimes have to go down in order to carry on. The path to success is not a straight clean and peaceful line, it's a curvy road that has obstacles.
We all want to be better versions of ourselves. Keep in mind that better don't mean perfect. A better version of us isn't someone who's richer or prettier. It's not a bigger house or a new fancy car. It doesn't have to be something visible to the eyes of the people watching.
A better version of us could be someone who now sleeps soundly at night, drinks more water, trusts themselves, treat their selves better, smiles more and is contented of how far they've come.
Growth isn't only seen on the outside, it is also something that we can only feel within ourselves that we can project in so many ways.
If you think you're doing better for a few days, weeks or months and you suddenly start to feel down again, that doesn't mean you're back to day one or all the days that you were okay is now gone. Feeling down is not the end of what you've started, rather it is part of it.
Just like any other road trips, we need a break. Taking a break is not a reward for the things you did, it's a necessity that we all need.
Sleep or rest shouldn't be treated like a reward. It's like water, we need it in order for us to function properly.
If you think you don't have much progress going on in your life, try and look back to how you were a year ago. I'm sure a thing or two improved in you. Maybe the way you dress, you think, act or the way you carry yourself.
You're doing better each day.
Take a plant as an example. You may not notice how much it grows everyday, but the time will come and you will see how big it has come. Just like you and your little achievements!
These realizations that I've written has contributed to my progress and is also one of the reasons why I thrive on my betterment. I hope it did the same for you. I wish we're on the same page, if not, I genuinely hope you're a few pages ahead of me.
Even just with the thought of wanting to improve already shows that we are indeed improving.
If you're currently going down a steep mountain slope in your journey, do it slowly. Whether you're going up or down, as long as you're patient and willingly moving forward, you're doing great and I'm proud of you for that.
